Anyone Doing a Cigar Bar?

Kimi K, on August 3, 2011 at 4:56 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 44

We're having an adult-only reception and have opted to not do wedding favors. The venue we love the most has a beautiful outdoor patio and in conversation between me, my mom, dad & FH a Cigar Bar was brought up. My dad went BONKERS over this idea and the more and more it was discussed my mom & FH both loved the idea. Since we're only having 60 guests... a cigar roller is out of the question (bummer because that would be cool) so instead we'd have a Cigar Bar. (an array of different cigars)

Is anyone else doing this?

Nope, but I can't stand the smell of any smoke at all.

Good luck the pictures you posted are nice.

@Stacy: Yeah... I agree with you. Some cigar smoke actually smells quite nice (not anything like cigarette smoke) but it can be quite strong. One concern of mine is that the smoke will find itself into the venue... BLAH! I'm thinking maybe if we serve them towards the end of the night it won't be as bad.

Great idea, just make sure your venue will allow it.

I think this is a fantastic idea. Especially if you have some cigar smokers in the group. Very unique Kimi! Go for it...people will def remember something like this when they look back on your wedding!

We are planning on doing a cigar bar, it'll be outside on a patio, our venue has several so we should be able to segregate them from those guests wishing to breath fresh air =).

My FH is a huge cigar smoker. This is a wonderful idea and I cant wait to go home and tell him about it.

@Samantha: Are you going to a cigar store to buy a bunch of different types? I wasn't sure what the best way would be to buy in bulk. My dad told me that if we're doing this we have to do it right and get the good stuff (which I guess that means going to a store)

I'm glad I'm getting some pretty positive feedback about this idea! :o)

Ugg, Kimi, damn you and all your awesome (and awesomely expensive) ideas LOL. FH saw this and it's now a must - the only issue is that these poor men will be outside freezin' while enjoying their cigars - it will most likely be below zero on our wedding day. :/

Hahahaha Kristyn! I'm hoping that the 'homemade' bar won't be too much... The display of them can get pretty pricey. Depending on your venue some places offer patio heaters. They work amazing.

I think it's a great idea if you have guests who will participate. Maybe you can do some custom labels for the packaging as well...

Honestly- good cigars will cost you at least $7 each. You also have to be sensitive to guests who cannot tolerate the smoke. FH is a huge cigar smoker! I can't stand the smell of 90% of them, and my daughter is deathly allergic. Also, remember that a cigar takes an hour or so to smoke. It's not like someone can grab one quick and come back in for dancing or whatever. They'll be gone the majority of the evening.

I think it's a better option to follow the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner than to incorporate into the actual reception.

    But certainly a creative idea...

Do you have a humidor already? They aren't cheap and would need to be set up for several hours to days to get the humidity right. I would suggest thinking this through- because there are alot of issues to consider.

Meghan: My dad owns a humidor. He's a cigar connoisseur. We understand the prices. Our guest list is 60. FH's family are smokers and none of our friends or family members have problems with the smoke. (we are not inviting children to our wedding) We fully understand what this idea will entail.

I wish! I wanted to have a cigar roller b/c it was something my dad really liked and I thought it would be a fantastic idea...but my FH is a penny pincher and he didn't see the value in it Smiley sad so it got kicked to the curb...sad.

No way, I can't imagine a huge smoke cloud in my reception, also I have guests that don't like the smell of smoke plus I'm loathe to encouraging it at my event given the health consequences..hmm then again I AM having an open bar LOL..but seriously if it's something you think your guests would appreciate then go for it!

I love it! It looks like your wedding is going to be so much fun Smiley smile

I once went to a christmas party where there was a cigar bar, and I participated and then somehow started to get SUPER lightheaded (I know you're not supposed to inhale but I think I might have inhaled a little~I was already a little tipsy from champagne so my functioning skills were not all there). However, I would TOTALLY do it again given the opportunity, because it was still a really good time. I also can't STAND the smell of cigarette smoke, but many cigars have more of a musky smell so I don't think it's terribly offensive. Either way, I am sure that your wedding will be one that your guests will rave about for AGES.
