Anyone been to or had a wedding with succulent favors?

One of our ideas for a favor was a mini succulent, and our DOC thinks we should do those over the other ideas. I'm worried no one will take them though! She says people like them and usually take them but has anyone else been to or had a wedding with succulent favors? How many did you have leftover?...

I guess I'm not opposed to having a bunch of mini succulents for a little home garden but I'm just wondering.

I did bamboo and most people ended up taking them home. We left at the place setting with a thank you note on them so people knew they were the favors.

I did have about 8 guests who did not show at all, so I had some left over from that. But I gave some to our vendors as a thank you as well - like our deejay and photographer (our photographer loved it!). I think excluding those 8 no shows, I was left with around 6. But we were able to use them around our house as decor and gave some extras to my relatives whom I am close with.

I guess I have the UO, so many people do these and I just don't get it at all. That might just be a by product of living in a major city and it's not common to have space for plants though. I wouldn't take one, would much prefer an edible favor or no favor at all.

I think I'd grab one, but I think it's a trend right now to do these because I've seen them all over wedding magazines and on here. The only thing that gets tricky is anyone flying or traveling will have a hard time keeping it. Even though it's small, it's still alive and can't be packed away in luggage like other types of favors.

Yes and about 15 out of 45 got left. I still have one and the bride gets excited to see it at my house when she comes over though!

I don't get the popularity of these? I would probably leave it.

UPDATE! I found out what happened to the succulents. All of them were grabbed up. I went to dinner with the In Laws last night and I asked her what happened to them and she showed me two that she had snatched up. They were the only ones left.

I have serious thought to making flytrap favors, but quickly nixed it. They're easy to care for, but you HAVE to know what you're doing or you'll kill it.

I have two huge (think 18" diameter) pots of them at home because I grow carnivorous plants, lol. I love my little bug eaters!

We are getting married in May and are using succulents for our flowers/center pieces and will have mini succulents for everyone to take home!! I see a lot of comments about them not being taken if people are driving/flying and not wanting to take them, why not?! They are super easy to care for and honestly do not need much attention.

To those that have propagated succulents... how long does it take? I was thinking of propagating them when we first got engaged but that was over a year ago. All of the sudden my wedding is sneaking up on me and I feel like I might be running out of time lol.

I'm also considering planting several different herbs from seed and giving those out as favors. If I run out of time, it's probably a good Plan B.

Ours grew really fast!! We ended up with this after about 2 weeks. Just take the leaves carefully and lay them on top of soil. Spray with fertilizer.

We went to a wedding where succulents were the favors...the majority of guests traveled and we all left them. Just not conducive to travel with. Even if I drove I probably wouldn't have taken them, too much hassle to keep track of

My brother did this and we left ours there as we were 500 miles away from home.

My friend did that for her wedding. It's a nice idea but a lot of people didn't take them.

@Katie: It's unlikely that it was his handling that killed it. They're pretty resilient, BUT they are swamp plants, so any type of minerals/fertilizer in he soil or using tap water to water them will kill them. The traps will also only close 3-6 times before they slowly turn black and the plant will replace it with new traps. It basically pulls the nutrients out of the leaf as it dies, which is why the blackening happens so slowly.

    They're really fascinating little plants.

I would take all of them home if we were friends. Succulents are lovely.
