Anyone been married in a barn?

Brittany , on February 7, 2011 at 10:33 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 18

We are getting married in May in a Round Historic Barn at our local Fairgrounds. All of the seating would be above us (in a circle) and close family will be seated downstairs. The "show arena" in it has an asphalt walkway through the middle but has dirt/sand on both sides. Looking for ways to dress up the barn a little. Considered bringing in sod to cover all the dirt and sand, but thats our only idea so far. We both used to show animals in this barn as kids which is how we picked the location. We are the first couple ever to get married here! Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated!

That sounds awesome! It's definitely unique, but in a good way haha

I love the idea of it, I wish we had something like that around here we could do!

That is going to be so much fun..jealous. Maybe draping hanging off of the railing?

We bought 250 yards of ivory tulle off of craiglist last week to drape around the top railing. We also have collected white lights from all of our family members to mix in with the tulle.

We were thinking about buying a bunch of hanging baskets and hanging them from the entrance where I will walk in (the top picture)

I love the location but still would like something on the floor!

Idk what you're looking for as regarding decorations, but I love the curtain drapes for entrances, its classy while not being too old fashioned

Maybe a runner or are you looking for more than that? What a great place so unique!

Some people are HUGELY allergic to hay, so just remember that! One of the ladies in a photography club that I'm a member of, can't be anywhere near it, or she breaks out in hives all over her body.

Ohhhh....LOVE this barn!!!! So much you can do with this area!

The center aisle....tack down a white aisle runner with your initials on it so the people above can see your new name. :-)

I dont know how much sod would cost to lay down, but maybe a cheaper idea would use green hay? Maybe just on the sides of the aisle runner?

And then! OMG! My mind is going bonkers!

Take terra cotta planters, pot them with spring colors or your wedding colors full of flowers. Line those along the aisle, too.

use bows to decorate the chairs on the main floor and maybe get some inexpensive patio chair pads for the seats in the balcony.

Oh oh!!! What about draping lights across the entire top? kinda like the pic below.

Or!!!! maybe put shephards hooks in the terra cotta pots to give it height and tie more tulle to line the aisle?

Oh oh!!! I got more ideas!!!!

How about instead of lining your guests chairs on the main floor in your regualar rows...maybe circle them around you? And maybe have an alter in the center??? Make it more intimate?

I love the picture with the lights above! Do you think it would be hard for people to see/look down on us? There will be about 225 people upstairs so I'm hoping it fills up nice.

The circular chair setup will probably happen.

The sod came out to be $381.00. We would put an aisle runner down the middle asphalt and line both sides with sod.

Thanks for all the thoughts so far everyone!

That looks a lot like the barn at the Fairfield Co. fairgrounds Smiley winking We live in Canal and my husband went to Bloom Carroll I like all of Jennifer's ideas, especially the lights I know sod would look great but that's a lot of money to have sod put down for a half hour. unless you're keeping it for your yard then go for it.

OMG...I love this barn!!! I have been STILL thinking about it!!!!

I dont think the light above would be an issue....just as long as you space them out appropriately.

maybe instead of the streamers in the pic below....replace with tulle and lights?

Sod wil be expensive, and need weeks to set. I doubt they will allow that.

What about a very wide runner, with the tulle and maybe poms hanging to drape. I'd also be very careful of smells and allergies.

Makes sure it's cleaned out really well before you use it...

    But very unique idea!

The sod will be a temporary thing that we bring in the Friday before. We own a landscape company so thats the only reason I know about that and considered using it as an option.

We went in the barn last week and all the smell is gone and just smells like your outside somewhere. Nothing spectacular. That was a big worry of mine but it turned out to be ok.

I think we are going to use the monogram runner that was suggested above.

My main concern is covering both sides of the asphalt because it is loose dirt and I dont want people walking through it.

Ooooh jennifer o i love the first picture with the tulle and lights!!! If i were getting married in that barn i think it would look beautiful! maybe flower petals scattered over the turf or sod that you are using on either side of the aisle? I absolutely love candles and christmas lights so i would find anyway i could to add those. maybe even those battery powered fake candles at both ends of the chair rows you are using on the main floor. I think i am using those to line my aisle as well and placing then in luminaries. =) make it look romantic

You can buy sheets of plywood for the floor. Add some pine shavings on the floor? tobacco canvas/cloth http://www.syracusescenery.com/
