Any redhead and fair skin brides getting a (light) spray tan before wedding?

QuixoticWifeSerendipitousLife215, on March 28, 2021 at 6:25 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 10

I really love the idea of having that subtle bridal glow. I'm curvy and I don't want attention highlighted on my chubby ghost white arms. Because of that, I think I'd really prefer a light spray tan, but I'm nervous it will be TOO dark.

I've gotten light spray tans in the past for other weddings I've attended as a bridesmaid, but I'm torn.

I don't want it to look too fake. Any recommendations from any curvy or plus size redheads on here? Did it work for you? Do you regret it? Thanks!

For me, this is the kind of thing that definitely has to be tried in advance. The fact that you’ve had a light spray tan in the past, and presumably liked it, is a positive sign. Would you be able to have one done in advance of a dress fitting? That way you’d be able to see how the tan looked with the dress, and maybe see how they photographed together too. ( I’m assuming that the tan would be completely dry and at no risk of transferring color to your dress 😀)

It seems you tried it before & liked the results. I agree with getting spayed a few days before & trying it with your dress. That way you can really see the results. B

Thanks for the advice ladies, I am going to get one before my fitting as well as try to time it with my pre-bridal hair and makeup so we'll see it how goes!

This sounds like the perfect plan! I hope all goes well for you.

I'm also a red head and have thought about tanning but decided against it. I never have before so I am afraid I will do it and then hate it. The thing that made me consider it is that I am having a winter wedding so if I don't tan I am guaranteed to be pasty pale underneath my freckles. Luckily my gown is true white which makes my skin look a little more colorful in comparison, lol!

So we had an intimate winter ceremony a few months ago and I didn't do the spray tan because I had sleeves on, and I felt like it wouldn't look right for that time of year, so I think you are definitely making the right call.

It's just tough if you're doing a warmer weather wedding. I have enjoyed some spray tans in the past, but I was always worried about it not looking natural enough, so that's why I'm going to a practice one first. I have gotten spray tans where I felt really confident at the time but then it just didn't look like "me" in those photos.

But I also have an ivory dress so I didn't want to appear to be drowned out in it without some sort of "glow." It's all about perspective I think!

Thanks for the advice! That makes a lot of sense and also helps me feel a lot better about my own plans.

With all the info (Spring event, ivory dress), I completely agree that the tan is your best bet for getting that glow. Let us know how the trial goes once you get it!

I have reddish hair and am super pale — if I get sun, I burn and then it just fades to white. 😂 Even a light tan (on myself) would feel/look weird to me, so I decided not to get one. We also had a fall wedding, which helped!

Agree with PPs though, and I hope your trial goes well!

I'm a fair skinned redhead and definitely have also been debating this. I've never had one done before but plan to get one done before the wedding to see how it looks.

It may be a good idea to do a trial spray tan a while before the wedding to see how you feel about the results.
I’m a redhead and I’m going tanning in a bed to build a base tan since we’re going to Cancun two days after our wedding. If I don’t try to tan a little I’ll burn horribly in the sun and I’d like to enjoy my honeymoon at the ocean.

Update: definitely did the lightest option possible under the "Perfect GLO" line of air brush spray tans. Didn't expect the whole "up in your business" treatment, but now I know for next time. It's definitely far darker than I am used to, and I freaked out this morning because I thought it was noticeable bad in the sense that anyone who knows me, and sees me looking like this, might think it's still a bit "much." However, apparently this type of spray tan gets better with time, and today was very cloudy weather-wise so I'm hoping if I do like I it, I will just make sure to schedule it further out in time before the wedding AND maybe ask the air brush person to do less spraying overall (maybe cut the time in half instead of the "full" amount of 10 minutes they spray you). I'm thinking further out in time + (hopefully) sunny wedding day weather will make it look more natural, but i know there's no guarantees with anything. If it doesn't fade more by tomorrow, I may just skip it. There's too much uncertainty on top of an already insane year.

Thank you all for the advice!
