Any other brides dealing with depression while wedding planning?

Amanda, on October 19, 2016 at 7:38 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

I've suffered from depression and anxiety since I was a teenager. Sometimes it can make wedding planning so much more difficult! I'm on medication for it but it's not always enough. Is anyone else trying to balance wedding planning (and the added stress that comes with it) and simultaneously trying to manage depression?

I can relate! I have had anxiety and depression since my teen years too. In fact my mom suggested I get on meds to help me through the planning knowing that I'd become more anxious. I've actually been doing pretty good. The only thing I do do is go through days of "omg I need to get everything done right now!!" and then days of "eh I'll get to it eventually I guess." My best advice is to follow the checklist on WW. Put those dates in your personal calendar/planner so you can visually see your "deadline" on them and work towards it accordingly. You can do it!!! Yes, my depression decided right now would be a great time to come in for a visit. It comes and goes, and I'm a therapist so I know how to work with it, but all the stress and decisions and things to do at work really bring out the yucky feelings about myself.

I have PTSD and depression from an accident I was in last year. While I can usually focus on what I'm doing and "block things out" (probably not the best thing to do, but the "10 second imaginary vacations" the therapist I met with suggested just don't cut it), the worst part of the symptoms have been slowly coming back recently. I do follow the checklist to help concentrate, but I'm kind of in limbo. I've booked all the major things we need, so I'm just waiting. It just feels empty now.

I'm extremely bad at being positive during these times, so I have a journal that I use where at the end of the day I write down three things I accomplished. Sometimes its easy, sometimes it's difficult, sometimes it's just "got out of bed". It has helped me in the past to show that the day isn't really a total loss and because of whats been happening I've been thinking of starting again.

I do second using the WW checklist to keep on track, it helps! I'll also be using @Gracies suggestion and doing the calendar thing with the small planner I carry in my purse.

Hello Ladies, I'm not currently dealing with depression but I do know what it's like. Here's an article that may help and give you ladies something to think about. In many medical studies exercising increases your chance of getting through depression and can even work better than meds. I chose to walk/jog around my neighborhood blast my favorite songs through my headset. Lol. Good luck

Yes-trying to be more active and meditate every day. Honestly, I think between both it has really helped. Even my mom made a comment that I seem a lot calmer than usual. I use headspace -it's a great meditation app.

Wedding planning can definitely be overwhelming, let you FH know if it gets that way, maybe he can help balance out the stress?
