We are thinking about serving (in this order):

Soup

Salad

Entree

Cake ( after cake cutting)

We did! Soup course, salad course, and then family style dinner. It's a cultural thing. You can't sit down to dinner in a Polish household and not have soup.

Since the dinner was family style they served the soup that way too - empty bowls were already out on the place settings and servers brought carafes of soup to every table and served right there. The soup was a big hit. One of my BMs fessed up that she had 3 bowls. Smiley smile

I love soup when it's cold outside. It's also generally a crowd pleaser...easy to find something everyone likes.

As a caterer, I can tell you that this almost never goes well. Most people are scared of it; it's too sloppy, they have just sat at a table where they may not know everyone...it's awkward. I do, however, like soup shots passed during cocktail hours and that always seems to go.

We had a choice of soup or salad we chose a cream of tomato soup with basil. FH dad loved it so much at the tasting he pretty much drank it.

There has been soup at 90% of the weddings I have gone to and I have never been scared of it. I have also not noticed other people avoiding it. Even when we were in Mexico for my BFFs weddin there was soup and it was a delish pepper soup that the bride loved so much I gave her mine so she could have a second bowl.

Our caterer suggested having salad pre-set and the soup brought out right as people sit down. Each course takes about half an hour so this combines the two and saves time.
