Any great Harry Potter theme wedding ideas?

Following! I’ve been trying to think of ways to incorporate touches of HP into our reception... I’m such a Potterhead!

I’d choose a venue after a scene you love which will make decorating a lot easier. For example. A lodge for the school hall scene (I think you can even buy floating candles to hang). Such a fun theme!

I’m currently trying to re make invitations I’ve seen online. So far managed to download the lumos and classic Harry Potter fonts. Working on how to represent every house via my goomsman. Since I’m slytherin and my fiancé is Ravenclaw.

We plan on shooting our engagement photo shoot at the castle in Central Park. As well as a few locations near our wedding venue and at our wedding venue. Trying to recreate some shots or bring some elements of the wizarding world

I imagine you'd have some fun table number options. If you're doing party favors you can totally do some jelly beans or a chocolate frog or what not.

There are so many things on Etsy, I can't even begin. I got my veil comb from there - a Ravenclaw diadem that my friend glued to a comb, and then it held my veil in place.

I bought the Ravenclaw Vans and wore them as my reception shoes. (They are super comfy and I wear them everywhere, now.) ...And our theme wasn't even HP.

(Also, encourage guests to bring their wands!)

My fiance and I are having a Harry Potter themed wedding as well! I made a toss bouquet out of paper flowers, we're making floating candles and the mirror of erised, and our venue is in a castle-esque hotel. Small details like colored table runners and/or napkins in your house colors can really add to the aesthetic as well!

Our wedding is a “Harry Potter” theme.


Doing the “HoneyDukes” candy buffet, having a Bride and Groom signature drink- from the books, having the back of the cake be decorated with “HP”, the ceremony will have a “Pick a House not a side” sign, we have a bunch of other cute things- I’ll write about later when I have more time and can think! Lol

My wife is making wands for the bride and groom when our son gets married in a few weeks. They will be using the illustrated version of Sorcerer's Stone as their guest book and will have books and HP themed items as their centerpieces. You can name your tables or give them themes that fit the Potterverse. We also bought a vinyl sticker that read "Mischief Managed" and applied it to a heart shaped plaque for our wedding that we will bring for décor for our son too. As for incorporating the houses with your groomspeople, there are pins, ties, socks, and scarves that can be added to any suit or outfit. A Honeydukes candy bar is always a hit.

I think venue plays a HUGE role in a HP themed wedding. FH and I were looking at 2 venues, but we ended up with the old historic mansion because it looks like the great hall! Our wedding isn’t necessarily HP themed but I’m definitely throwing some wands in there and I want the overall feel of our wedding to be Hogwarts if that makes sense? Magical, candles everywhere, fairy lights, etc.


For the HP stuff we are doing:1. I’m getting Toms off of Etsy for my shoes. 2. Table numbers will actually be chapter names or locations - Hogsmeade, Great Hall, Honeydukes, etc. 3. Were doing our seating chart modeled after the chapters (like the picture). The pages will be on a huge board covered in flowers made out of HP book pages.
4. My niece passed away, so we are doing a memorial for her that’ll be a lantern with a wand leaning against it. Well have a sign that says “this wand is raised for ______” and “those who love us never really leave us” or something like that. 5. HP music will play in the library, which is where the seating chart and cake will be. 6. If we have enough left over in our budget, Were going to hire an actress and have her walk around with a trolley full of HP candy and snacks, like the lady that is on the train with the trolley. 7. BM dresses will look like Hermiones Yule ball dress, but in my colors. 8. Our card box is going to be an owl crate

Your centerpieces could be a lot of different HP things: one could be a sorting hat, one could be Hedwig, etc. If you're doing a photobooth you could have spells on speech bubbles that guests could use for props in pictures!

You could also give chocolate frogs or Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans as favors too!

View Quoted Comment We are having a mirror booth and are currently working on making a custom frame to make it look like the Erised mirror. At the front we plan on using a sorting hat to let guests know where to sit. As center pieces we have trees with candles hanging from them. Across the tables we will have greenery with fairy lights mixed in them. We are buying our own picture props including prisoner from azkaban signs, Wands, and custom picture printouts, also we are having a honeydukes station, and three Harry Potter inspired drinks. A transfiguration drink that will change colors in front of our guests from blue to purple, a dragons breath drink that will be lit on fire and a shot of bubbling death drink.
