Another Wedding Crisis

Amber, on October 16, 2019 at 9:12 AM Posted in Planning 1 11

Two nights ago, I went to dinner with my sister and her husband. They just found out that my brother-in-law is being deployed in March 2020 until January 2021 (our wedding is May 2020). I could tell he was upset about missing our wedding and I honestly had to hold back tears at the thought of it, but I didn't want to make him feel any worse. He's been a big brother to me for over ten years and even though FH isn't as close with him yet, he was also upset about it. We quickly decided that him missing our wedding was not an option, but we couldn't wait until after January 2021.

Yesterday I contacted all of our vendors, who were surprisingly all available for all three of the dates in February 2020 I've been considering. I'm relieved that this was something we could fix. I get to marry FH even sooner, my brother-in-law can be there, and I definitely plan on taking full advantage of winter wedding color schemes!

The only thing I'm bummed about is that we chose our venue because of all the huge open areas of green grass and lots of green trees around a pond. We definitely won't have snow down here, so I'm just concerned that all of our wedding photos will have dead grass and bare trees in the background and give it a dreary vibe. Smiley atonished I was considering February 9th, but I think we'll end up going with February 23rd to give it a few more weeks to see if the greenery livens up a bit (it can easily be a high of 70 by the end of February in SC), not to mention avoiding sending out invitations during the holidays!

Just waiting for FH to wake up so I can text him to make sure he's okay with this specific date before finalizing anything with our vendors (again). Time to throw away all those Save the Dates I just ordered Smiley sad Oh the joys of wedding planning! Smiley xd

Just want to throw this out there before you make a big change!! Check with your brother-in-law to make sure of a few things.. 1. he wont have training to attend before his deployment! and 2. That his report date isn't early March, otherwise he will likely have to leave end of February.

I would hate to see you reschedule everything and he still not be able to attend for pre-deployment things!!

I found out that my maid of honor is getting deployed and will miss our wedding my two weeks. I wish I could have changed the date like you! I can definitely tell she's bummed but we're making the best of it! I'm sure he appreciates it very much!

I just have to say that I love how you jumped in and made everything work. I’m sorry that he is being deployed and that you have to change everything around, but the attitude that you’re doing it with just shows how great of a person you are!

So awesome that you're able and willing to change things for him! I'm sure he really appreciate it! Just wanted to say though, instead of throwing out the save the dates, maybe put a little note in them explaining the change, so that it isn't completely wasted money.

I'm so sorry your maid of honor can't make your wedding, hopefully she'll still be able to take part in the pre-wedding festivities if you have them!

Thank you so much!! My brother-in-law has been around for so long, he may as well be my actual brother. The situation isn't ideal, but I'm trying to make the best of it Smiley smile

Thank you! I thought about doing that with our Save the Dates and I'm still considering it, but now they'll be going out just 4 months before the wedding. I'm not sure if that's weird to send just a couple months before the actual invites lol

I would still send them! You put work into making them so don't let them go to waste! I wouldn't think it was weird at all once I realized why the date had changed.

We're doing all the pre-wedding festivities early so she can be a part of as much of it as she can!

I’m so sorry!! This actually happened with my sister and her husband. That found out he was getting deployed a month before their original date. We had to scramble to get everything set up but the wedding turned out amazing and it was so fun!! I wouldn’t worry too much about pictures. Photographers work pure magic and they will be gorgeous no matter what the weather is.
