Anniversary Dance??? @ reception (what? how?)

Terri, on January 14, 2013 at 7:23 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

In another thread I just read mention of an "Anniversary Dance" at the reception. Never heard of it, so I Googled it. Some say its a dance for all married couples at the reception. another said for the couple that's been together the longest...and one described a dance starting with ALL married couples, as the song progresses couples leave the dance floor according to time frames (5 yrs or less, then less than 10 yrs, and so on) until the last couple dancing that has been married the longest finishes out the song...then gets a bouquet or something...

This is the first I have heard of this, never seen it done at a wedding, but I love the idea.

I'd love to hear if you did this or plan to do this at your reception, and any ideas or suggestions on variations ...and ideas for something to give them other than a bouquet??

thanks

Yes my daughter is doing this at her wedding. Her aunt and uncle have been married a long time and it is their anniversary date. They will have corsages because they are so special to her anyway.

We're doing this. Not sure if we will have something for the couple that has been together the longest but we have the perfect song for it. FH picked it, "Together We Will Live Forever" from The Fountain

We didn't have anything for the couple that was married the longest, which turned out to be friends of the family. Everyone loved it, though! He started with less than 6 hours, for us, then less than one year, two years, three years, four years, five years, ten years and so on. We used "All You Need Is Love". People are still talking about it, and we loved the idea of celebrating love in general, and marriage, not just ours.

Yes we had this - very normal in my neck of the woods. The longest married couple then gives the newly weds some marital advice.

Please don't pee your pants laughing. My parents were the oldest married couple and their advice to us "Don't hate each other at the same time"

Haha...I like the advice part...I think we'll add that.

I'm trying to think of some little something to give the longest married couple at the end of the dance...so far I've come up with roses (give to her) and a jar of FH's famous homemade hot mustard that everyone loves (give to him) and he can tell them that's in case they need to spice up their love life or something goofy like that.

Funny stuff! We didn't give anything - my rents got a standing ovation from the other guests and life moved on. We kept it VERY short. A 5 hour reception sounds like a long time but it goes by lickety split. So that longest married couple dance and advice was maybe a minute and a half long start to finish

Yeah.. almost every wedding I've been to has done this. I love it even though it's sort of cheesy! Smiley smile We're not giving the couple a bouquet or anything, but maybe we'll ask them to share a piece of marriage advice!?

We did one like the last way you described. We actually had to go through 1.5 songs because the people had been married so long. We gave a bouquet and did that instead of a bouquet toss because most of the women at my wedding were married

Haha @ Marie that's the best advice I've ever heard...

I've seen it done once in the 3 weddings I've been to recently- but I loved it (counting the years until only the longest-together couple is left). They didn't do anything at the end but the DJ said "congrats" and then put on something funky and they ran away....hahaha

I love the advice part, and think I'll add that too!

We are doing this. The plan as of right now is to use Alan Jackson's Remember When. I'm sure there are people who do this different ways. We are going to have the DJ ask that all married couples come to the dance floor. The last couple standing will get something (it should be my grandma and grandpa, which I'm excited about).
