Am I expecting too much? David's Bridal

To all of you who bought the dress at David's bridals. So my dress came in the mail all wrinkled in a tiny box and it looks like the lining is longer than the lace. So my dress came in the mail all wrinkled in a tiny box and it looks like the lining is longer than the lace. It doesn't need any alterations, but I was honestly expecting a dress in usable condition. I took it to David's bridals and first they thought it was a defective one, but then the seamstress realized it only needs to be steamed, which has an extra cost.

I'm just curious if all of you went through this. For such an expensive dress I wold at least expect it to come in a nice bag and ready to be used.

I'm almost 90% sure that DB told me to come back before the wedding and they'd steam it for free because when I picked it up and tried it on I was complaining it was wrinkled at the bottom .... I could be wrong...

I got my dress in store and they had it delivered to my house in a box wrinkled. I would have at least expected a garment bag. I did have to get it altered so they steamed it after. Still charged an extra $10 for the garment bag.. which felt like an insult after purchasing not only my dress but all 6 bridesmaid dresses with them.

Yep, expecting too much since you ordered it online to save some bucks. Take it to DB or a seamstress to steam it.

Any dress would need to be steamed prior to your wedding

They had the discount in store too, but I didnt have time to go back that week, they told me I could call and pay by phone, which I was ok with since the lady who helped me could get the commission for the sale that way. After they kept me on hold for 30 min I decided to do it online. I guess my rant is not just about the steaming of my dress but their overall customer service.

Honestly, I would expect almost anything that was ordered online and shipped to need to be steamed. The alternative is that is it hand-delivered by a courier service, which would be crazy expensive. Also, I just wouldn't expect much from David's Bridal. I didn't have a great experience there and I don't think they are exactly known for their service.

My friend works at David's Bridal and she told me that if I ordered something online I couldn't return it or exchange it in store. She said online is like its own store. It's really stupid.

My dress was longer on one side than the other. I have amazing seamstress who fixed it for me. She told me almost every dress is off in some location or another.

My SIL dress came in a small box with no dress bag. I was upset we had to go pay 10.00 for a bag! I mean what do they expect you to do, just carry it around with no protection? Just by it being in a box it will get wrinkled. I layed mine flat and it still got wrinkled, I think it would need steaming either way. Luckily my seamstress sent me home with her personal steamer to take care of last minute details.

There's a reason that the prices at David's Bridal are lower than many other stores and the online prices are lower than in-store. You are getting what you pay for.

You said you don't like their overall customer service ... But you haven't said how their customer service is bad ... Just that you are mad that they won't steam your dress for free.

Ya David's Bridal doesn't seem to have the best customer service. I was there today to shop for my dress and I felt like they didn't really want to help me shop. We picked 2 dresses to start and the sales assistant really didn't want to go get any others. I had to keep prodigy her to go get another

I did read each of your comments. You didn't like being on hold with the store so decided to order online. You didn't like that it arrived in a box and wasn't ready to wear. You took it to the store and they confirmed there was nothing wrong with the dress and told you they would steam it for a charge. I'm not trying to be argumentative but the only customer service issue could be that you had to be in hold with the store - when they were probably helping brides who had appointments in the store.

Well... I guess I will just say their service is what it is. Whenever I order anything online (shoes, cosmetics, etc) I check to see if purchases can be returned in store before I order. Just in case... (Katie)

@JML her dress has not been 'dismantled' nor is it sub-par. It was smushed in a box and it got wrinkled. There aint a nice way to put a wedding gown in a box without wrinkling it.

That is awful that you were on hold that long. Me? I would have hung up and called back. 30 minutes is ridiculous. As a consumer, you should be aware that sometimes service is different when ordering online rather than in store. You could have/should have checked that.

You can ask for free steaming, but really... what else are you upset about? They have policies set in place if you had just asked. If you have to pay for steaming, its quite cheap. I wouldnt give this any more energy than its worth.

As someone who didn't want to look at David's Bridal when I was dress shopping...I'm actually going to defend them

My aunt found a gorgeous dress for my daughter on their website and ordered it before I could change my mind. We ordered the dress in gold but when it came as beautiful as the dress was, it wasn't really gold. More like taupe. I took it to the store and I asked for an exchange. They allowed me to exchange it for anything of the same value. My daughter actually walked out of there with a totally different dress. And they were very nice about it. I'd call around if I were you. Is there another store close to you?

They will steam it... they just don't steam for free. Its not worth hunting down different shops. Its better to just say the $15 or whatever with a tailor.

I also ordered mine in store and it came in a big bag. It did have wrinkles on it but after going to my first fitting they told me they will steam it for me. And my seamstress sprayed some anti static stuff all over my dress since its tulle and it actually flattened out some wrinkles

I picked mine up in the store and he bottoms was really wrinkles and a few deep creases in the middle of the dress. I didn't get alterations there but where I did they are going to steam it for me and have it look perfect the week of the wedding
