Am I expecting too much? David's Bridal

Monica, on April 13, 2016 at 11:50 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 43

To all of you who bought the dress at David's bridals.

So my dress came in the mail all wrinkled in a tiny box and it looks like the lining is longer than the lace. It doesn't need any alterations, but I was honestly expecting a dress in usable condition. I took it to David's bridals and first they thought it was a defective one, but then the seamstress realized it only needs to be steamed, which has an extra cost.

I'm just curious if all of you went through this. For such an expensive dress I wold at least expect it to come in a nice bag and ready to be used.

Did you buy the dress in store or online? If the dress is messed up they should be fixing it for free since you already paid for the dress

Did you order it online and have it shipped to your house? I bought my dress from David's Bridal. The store ordered it for me and when I went back to pick it up it was in a bag. I could not tell you how it came to the store. I'm guessing the same way as you are describing. I'm having alterations done so I'm assuming it will come back from that in "usable condition". How much do they charge for steaming?

I agree with @VJGaff and thank you for informing us about this issue as well. Now we know that this can be an issue with ordering online. I will have to keep this in mind. But I would call the customer service line as well and tell them what is going on.

There's no way to ship a dress in "usable" condition. It's going to be wrinkled no matter how much you paid for it. Try taking it to an independent seamstress or to a dry cleaners and ask them to steam it for you. It'll probably cost way less than steaming it at Davids Bridal.

So I tried it in store but they were having a 50 dollars off online sale so I bought it online. The store tells me that since I did not get it over there they cannot do it for free. I email customer service and they are supposed to respond in 48 hours. It has been a week and haven't heard back from them.

Im not surprised that is wrinkled from being stuffed in a box. They steam it for free if you are getting alterations. I think its kind of ridiculous they don't steam for free anyway. You could call customer service and complain and request complimentary steaming. Or you could go elsewhere and pay a small charge to have it steamed and be wrinkle free. It might be a good idea to do that so you can judge the length/fit accurately. You will likely need to have it steamed again right before the wedding.

David's Bridal also doesnt give free garment bags (also kind of ridiculous), just plastic bags to cover the dress on the hanger.

I guess Im also wondering why you didnt think it would be wrinkled after being mailed.

Sorry Monica I've heard that too. They won't do anything unless you ou for it in store. They want you to buy in store so they get commission. They don't take any care of the online ones. Smiley sad

I ordered my dress in store and picked it up myself, I took it out and double checked it for stains and tears before I took it home. It was a bit wrinkly and I will need to get it steamed before the wedding, but it isn't a big deal to me.

Ya thast store policy, should of order through the store. I mean i think its reasonable to assume it would have to be steamed after being shipped.

Yes, your expectations are too high. Did you expect David's Bridal to personally deliver your dress so it wouldn't be wrinkled?

You decided to save the $50 on the dress by ordering it online, use some of it to get it steamed or just borrow a steamer and do it yourself.

I understand it's reasonable to have it steamed before the wedding. I am just disappointed with their customer service. Don't order online ladies!!

I ordered mine in store and it arrive with wrinkles. I need alterations so I am just expecting to get it steamed. Every dress I have ordered online has come wrinkled. I think that is just the nature of sending something through the mail.

YA I would never, I would have no idea how they could ship the dress without rolling it into a ball, etc. Good Luck.

I bought my dress in-store. There were 2 minor blemishes on the dress, which are being fixed free of charge. They are also steaming the dress free of charge. But they only do those things if you do in store.

My bridesmaids who ordered their BM dresses online received them just folded up in a box. Long gowns just wadded up in a plastic bag in a box. I wasn't impressed. I wish they were given at least a garment bag.

I ordered my dress directly from the store. They asked me if I wanted a hanging bag for an additional $10, which I choose to do. I picked up my dress on Monday and it was perfectly fine. It was in the hanging bag and no wrinkles what so ever.

Eta: They could have steamed it for me for all I know.

Be careful about ordering online with DB. I ordered my slip online because they didn't have my size in store and I did not want to wait the estimated 8 weeks to receive it if the store ordered it for me. I received it within a few business days ordering online. I did not try it on with my dress when it arrived. I went to my 1st fitting and the slip was the wrong style for my dress. However, it was already past the 14 day return deadline so I could not return or exchange the slip. They will not modify or alter slips at DB so my mom & I modified the slip ourselves (we are fairly decent seamstresses, but certainly not experts). I did not want to buy another slip for an additional $68.

I ordered my dress and a garment bag at the store. It was delivered to DB, and was in the garment bag when I picked it up. There were no flaws that I could find anywhere on the dress. It was wrinkled, but not horribly wrinkled. They will steam the dress and my veil for no charge when alterations are completed. I am supposed to pick it up on Friday evening.

BTW - at the 3rd fitting (I am tired of fittings) - the modified slip was finished & looked great with the dress.

If you're getting alterations the seamstress should steal it at the last fitting. If not, take it to a seamstress. Mine was steamed the week of my wedding. It had to be hung outside of the bag for until I wore it so it didn't wrinkle again. That's why they wait to steam because it'll just get wrinkled between now and then and you don't want it hanging out of the bag for months.

I ordered mine online from DB and it came in a plain box. It was wrapped in plastic and tissue paper. It was a little wrinkled, but it's all lace. I hung it up immediately and after about a week it looked ready to wear.

You should demand for those services to be rendered compliementary. There isn't any reason your dress should come dismantled or anything below par.
