Am I being a jerk by asking my bridesmaids not to cut their hair?

Brianna, on May 2, 2017 at 11:57 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 41

**EDIT: Thanks for your responses, I am a jerk! I will rescind my requests. Thanks for your input!**

My wedding is in 7 weeks, so it's getting to crunch time. I am getting accusations of being a "bridezilla" from a couple of the women in my bridal party because I asked them not to cut their hair.

I let all of my bridesmaids pick their own dresses, I just assigned a color palette and asked that it be floor length. The only thing I have asked for specifically is to not cut their hair short/shorter than it already is. My MOH and one bridesmaid are making a big stink about it. The bridesmaid went ahead and cut her hair very short anyway, and then I found out she has an appointment 2 weeks before the wedding to take it up to the same length as it was after the first cut. I asked her to postpone the appointment and she got really annoyed with me.

Just because this is the only thing you asked of them, which I don't think is true, does not make it ok.

Yes. You're dictating what *they're* doing with *their* body.

    Their body. Their choice.

    You're in the wrong here.

Yes. I wear my hair in bobs. Would you just not have invited me into your BP if I was your friend?

Yes, you are... these are people you love that are present to celebrate your big day. Don't make it unpleasant & lose friendships!

They're people not props. My mother keeps her hair cut very short and when it grows too long without getting it cut it is a constant annoyance and bother to her. It may seem like nothing to you, but they get to control their appearances and comfort levels on every day of their adult lives, setting aside that they've agreed to wear a special dress for you.

And no, you being lax and trying to be a cool bride by not dictating the exact style of the dress does not give you a free pass to dictate their hair cuts.

You can't tell them how long they have to have their hair. The only thing they have to do is show up and wear the dress you picked out. That's it.

Breathe. Try to calm yourself down. But I do have to agree you can't tell someone what to do with their body.

You're going to lose friends OP. It's just hair.

You are definitely out of line. I usually do a huge chop around summer because it gets so hot and had a bride yell at me because I didn't fit her vision.

Needless to say we don't speak anymore.

OP here. As I typed this all out, I think it stems from me not liking short hair on these 2 particular people. Which as people have pointed out, really isn't my business

Sometimes it takes the perspective of strangers to realize that you are being a jerk!

Yes, that is bridezilla behavior. You have no right to dictate the length of their hair just because they're in your wedding. They're your friends; act like it.

That's really terrible. If I was your bridesmaid I would cut my hair just to prove a point.

    You should apologize to them.
