Alternatives to a ring bearer?

Amy, on February 25, 2010 at 1:44 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

Ok, so when my hubby was younger, he told his niece whenever he gets married she will be his flower girl. She told him, only if he'll be her ring bearer when she got married. Fast forward many years, she's 20, got married and he (at 33) was her ring bearer. Now two years later, she will be our flower girl....but what about the ring bearer??? We don't have any male on either side we want. My question is....Do we need one?

No you dont need one, many people dont have one. Actually we are having a pirate swing down from the crows nest to deliver our rings. Seriously. NO joke.

In my opinion, no. The times have changed so much that a ring bearer isn't really necessary. I've seen the best man holding the rings in his pocket, dogs being ring bearers, but honestly, I really don't think a ring bearer is needed. I however have a younger brother, so he obviously has the job, but he will not be carrying the rings, that will be the best mans job.

@ Amy, they actually have little outfits for dogs that are going to be ring bearers. They are adorable! I would so totally do it if my brother didn't already have the job...plus my dog is a puggle aka tasmanian devil. Seriously. I love her to death though. Hiper dogs do not make good ring bearers though, lol!

I have seen video of that, and my nieghbors did it. Sooo cute. Just have your dog stay with someone, and when its time for the rings, both of you can call your dogs name (and maybe have a treat waiting) and they will come running down the aisle to give you your rings. Also a cute way to show everyone that your pooch is part of the fam, and you wanted to include them in your celebration!

@ luckyones I think that would be adorable, but even if the ob was open, I don't think my venue allows animals, lol!

Yeah....If I had a puppy or small dog it would be one thing. We have a greman shepard and he would just drool (literally) and if we called him, he would jump on us! NO WAY! lol. MAybe I'll ask my baby brother (he'll be 24 lol)

That's really sweet you guys are doing that! I think it would fit nicely to only have a flower girl since she's not under the age of 10 Smiley smile Unless another adult man doesn't mind taking on the part....I think it's so cute and sweet. That'd be really neat if your baby brother would do it!

Amy how cute is that! Honestly I don't think you need a ring bearer. I think people have really gotten away from putting the rings on the pillow anyways. Can't tell you how many stories I heard when I was younger about the rings being lost and/or falling off the pillow. Anyhow, we're not having a flower girl or ring bearer. Just give the rings to the best man. He will give them to the officiant at the appropriate time.

This may not be your choice, but I have a friend that is getting married outside. and they have a cute mutt dog, and they have trained him to walk to them and sit next to him, he is going to be the ring bearer.. just a different idea.

You don't have to have one. The best man can hold onto both rings. Or the best man can hold your ring and your MOH can hold his ring.

Thanks all! I'm going to ask my baby bro if he'll do it and if he says no (which I doubt) then I'll either go with Pumpkin's idea or just give them to the best man (gulp). lol

Yeah I am getting married on Sept 3,2010 and I was just going to have the BM carry my ring and my MOH cary his ring. But my questions is can a JR Bridesmaid also be a flowergirl?

Jamese, I would say depends on the age of the girl and the duties you want them to perform. My daughter (age 11 then) will be a jr. bridesmaid. I wouldn't want her to feel like she is being treated to young and she's not old enough for any REAL responsibilities.

I didn't know a little boy to be a ring bearer either. I have two goddaughters and so both can be involved, I'm having one as the flower girl and the other as the ringbearer. But to be honest, a ring bearer is not really necessary.
