Alternative Philly Wedding Idea

Samantha, on March 22, 2016 at 7:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

Hi ladies!

Let me preface this by saying I have a severe anxiety disorder and have been second-guessing a larger, expensive wedding from the start--even though my mom is generously covering the cost. I was never one of those little girls who dreamt about her wedding day, so it doest make sense to have a big to-do. At the same time, I don't want to regret not celebrating.

My mom recently suggested having a small, intimate wedding instead. This makes me feel a lot more comfortable, so I've researched some alternative venue options in Philly.

Talula's Garden looks like a fantastic option for a magical celebration. (See below!)

Question: We probably wouldn't have dancing with only 30 people, so what would you suggest to make the night fun for FH and our friends after the dinner and ceremony? Clubs? Lounges? Other options?

Still fumbling with this idea so all advice is appreciated!

    I work up the street from Talula's. I always stare at their outside. It's just so pretty!

    Are you able to rent a private room at say one of the rooftop bars? There's a few not far from Talula's.

    @FutureMrsC that's a good idea. I'll look into it. I honestly haven't even heard back from Talula's...

    There's also another place around the corner. It's on 8th street between Locust and Walnut. They always have their courtyard set up with beautiful lighting and tents. I'm not sure of the name though.

    ETA: It might be Morris House Hotel

    If you like bowling you could go to Lucky Strike for drinking and bowling

    We had about 40 people at our wedding, without dancing. We did a cocktail-style reception rather than a seated dinner so people were mingling the whole time. After the reception many of us continued celebrating at a neighborhood bar down the street.

    Talula's would be awesome! On a similar note, Barbuzzo has an upstairs space for private dinners/ receptions. Other quirky sites could be MAAS, Crane Arts or the Japanese House/Gardens.

    Research Venues in your area that don't charge for space, just the food. I know Ruth's Chris is one. We highly considered booking a private party at a restaurant, because of the convenience
