Altering strapless dress for a November wedding

Purple, on March 17, 2018 at 8:48 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

Hi everyone!

I'm having some issues deciding how to alter my strapless wedding dress for my mid-November wedding. I live on the east coast of the US, so our Novembers here are hit or miss. They can be really warm, really cold, or somewhere in between. It really depends. Regardless, I am a person who is always cold. I bought my dress off the rack and it is a strapless dress. I know that I definitely want to add at least straps to the dress and I knew that when I bought it. However, I have been thinking a lot about outside pictures and how unpredictable the weather can be here. I don't know how long we will be taking outside pictures and the cold is nearly unbearable for me to the point where I break out in a rash when my bare skin is exposed too long. I've been thinking about getting sleeves added but the ladies at the bridal shop I worked with told me that sleeves won't necessarily keep me warm.

I'm a little conflicted about what to do. Can I get some opinions/suggestions on this, please? I already spoke to a seamstress and am in her books for August, so I have until then to send her ideas and decide what I want to do.

Have you thought about having a shawl, some neat options are faux fur or plaid, then you could use the shawl when it’s cold. Wedding dress sleeves are very thin and likely will not keep you warm. Especially if they are lace

Same as PP, I would say a faux fur. They have some good options on Amazon and they're pretty cheap. Im getting married in mid-October and am going to get one just in case.

I think you should get a shawl or a wrap.

Hi everyone, thank you so much for the input. I'm not a big fan of shawls and I tried on a few at the salon with the dress and didn't particularly like it. A wrap sounds like a good idea though.

I've never worked with a seamstress before. Is it ok to ask her what she recommends as well, as far as making overall changes to the dress?
