Altering my Engagement Ring!!!

I love my diamond... I wished it had been a bit larger, but it's the perfect diamond, literally. He went with quality versus quantity. I love my diamond... I wished it had been a bit larger, but it's the perfect diamond, literally. He went with quality versus quantity. But, my friend works for a jeweler and brought me there today to look at wedding bands. My setting is low so every wedding band would not fit properly. I don't like the look of rounded bands. She asked if I would be willing to switch the band itself to one that pops the diamond up higher. I tried on a solitaire with the same size diamond as mine (.70 Carats), with five prongs versus my four prong. Holy shit! The ring looks fab! And even more amazing with the wedding band(s). I'm actually doing stackable. So, I decided to change the setting. I'm having a conversation with my fiancé tonight. Basically, the wedding bands weren't siting right with what he got me, and the jeweler said that give prongs protects it better.

Holy fuck- that awkward moment when you open the ring box where you regularly keep your ring and it's not there.

    died.

anyway- it was in my backpack b/c I was at the gym last night- anyway... let me post mine- it's tall- I smack it on LOTS of things- and I actually bought a small "nugget" ring to wear for travel, dance and field work - the tall one is- .. ahem tall LOL

I'm sure he wants you to be happy so I think you should change it to what you like.

We're changing my e-ring setting too. Reason is because he didn't realize the store sold him a white gold plated ring, so when I noticed that the color was changing, we high-tailed it to a new store and picked out a new setting. Good luck with your conversation.

JoRocka, is the ring itself thinner or thicker?

My sister had a tall ring in the beginning and she actually ended up getting a new one because it snagged so much that the prongs bent or broke pretty often. She was too scared of losing the diamond so she got a new ring that sits lower.

I had to have my ring completely remade and reset because the original jeweler botched FH's design. As you can see, it was really really high and all of the prongs, including the band diamonds' were too high (original are left and middle pics, new ring is on the right). We didn't know there was an issue until I took it to be appraised by a different jeweler. Obviously I had to have mine modified for a different reason, but it was really really hard to tell FH about it. I was so nervous to tell him that the other jeweler suggested we force the original store to remake it. Tread lightly; even though FH agreed it needed to be fixed, he was still really bummed that it wasn't as "perfect" as he thought it was.

@lovechristinexo medium? It definitely isn't thin but not particularly thick.

Eeekk, To each their own , but I could never swap out my original engagement ring!

Not that a stranger's opinion matters if that is what you want, but I personally think it looks weird when the diamond pops straight up from the band like that without a sloped up setting or something to offset this diamond that is all of a sudden sticking up high. Maybe that's just me. I actually like your original a lot Smiley smile And from the looks of the new setting, it still seems like a wedding will not sit flush to the engagement ring due to the angle of the prongs

Good luck! The thicker band and 5 prongs definitely looks more secure.

My e-ring is almost completely flush with the finger. My wedding band is horseshoe, and they stack perfectly. its totally possible as long as the wedding band is designed with the e-ring in mind.

    Here is the jeweler's pic:

I would be very careful of your wording when you talk to him about it. You definitely don't want to hurt his feelings! I like the thin band better, personally..

I love my skinny band. If you're worried about size I think the thinner bands make the diamond look bigger.

I love the height of my ring. It also makes the diamond appear bigger too! Your original band is so similar to the one you want to change it to though, is that really worth it to change it? I personally like the look of your thinner band though!

mrjonesandme- I am having trouble finding a band to go with my emerald cut ring too. Have you found anything you like yet?

I also have to say I wish mine was lower. I hit it on things and snags a lot. I'm scared I'm going to break a prong at times. But I love it and wouldn't change it for anything.

We talked about it! He said it was fine, because it's not altering the concept. It's a solitaire ring. It's not like I'm adding a halo or diamonds around the band. As far as others talking about it, well I don't real care, but I'm also not broadcasting it to everyone (that's why I'm here asking opinions). Anyone that has seen my ring will not even realize it. Super excited!! I do love the thinner band, but it doesn't match up with the thickness of the other two wedding bands.
