Altering illusion straps. Possible or a No-go? Did you have any luck?

Tia, on February 6, 2019 at 5:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
I just bought my dress!! Yay!!!

I love so many different things about my dress that I let my slight uncertainty for the front straps go and bought it. Loved the dress at the boutique and still love the dress from my couch but now the straps are starting to bother me as I linger on the photos.

I have always preferred vertical straps from a triangle v-neckline. Didn't have to be spaghetti strap, just vertical was more flattering. Examples of a "triangle boob" (for lack of better terminology) with straps for reference in the 2nd photo.

Now I'm wondering if it will even be possible to alter my illusion neckline from wide shoulder straps in the front to a more vertical style... I love the back of the dress and didnt want to lose the back illusion netting but I wouldn't cry over it if it meant fixing the front.

The dress will not be here for another 6 months and I will obviously have to find a seamstress in that time to get their opinion but in the mean time... let me know what you think!

Did you have any luck fixing your neckline or altering illusion straps? Do you think this neckline/strap in the front can be altered?

It will just all depend on your seamstress, I would just call & talk to them about what you want. It seems feasible to me.

Additional material nay need to be added behind the lace to support the weight of the dress, your best bet though is to take it to an independent seamstress and see what she says. Fwiw, I think the dress is beautiful as it is.

I agree with the previous comments. The dress is beautiful as it is but it is all going to depend on your seamstress. You can go around and show pictures but they will probably need to see the dress to determine how much work will truly be needed and if it is possible.

Like others have said, the dress is beautiful as it is. You can definitely ask your seamstress, but I honestly don’t think it will make a huge difference and I do think it will involve changing the back of the dress.

    Definitely here for this discussion.

So the top of my dress is nearly exactly like yours and I’m planning to add a full sleeve. My seamstress looked at the illusion strap and said it could be done.

She just had me order an extra yard of the lace from the designer.

Hope you can get exactly what you want!

Was this before or after you ordered your dress? I wonder if I can call the boutique later and ask them to send extra material with the order

I ordered the lace at the same time I placed my order. But they also said that the lace would be the first piece of my order to arrive (unsurprisingly), so I bet it’s not too late for you if you go this route.

I have heard that not all designers will do this as they don’t want you to change the dress. But it’s definitely worth calling the salon to ask.
