Alterations appointment gone horrible wrong and now i feel sick...

I just had my first alterations appointment. Most of it wasn’t her fault and it’s just my body. The dress has weird boning in the breast area and to prevent gaping, she has to put electric so it is stays flat. Well, one side is fine and doesn’t really need that and the other looks super pointed now....
I just had my first alterations appointment. Most of it wasn’t her fault and it’s just my body. The dress has weird boning in the breast area and to prevent gaping, she has to put electric so it is stays flat. Well, one side is fine and doesn’t really need that and the other looks super pointed now. Between her putting pins in it and my boobs being slightly different, it just looks awful and my mom is telling me I’m ruining the dress and to leave it as is. I can’t, because if I don’t...my boobs will literally just be in there and not being held up. They said they could add straps, but I don’t want to do that. All of this seems counterintuitive and I should have just picked a dress that fit my shape. The thing is, when she saw me out of the dress with no bra on...we both realized my boobs aren’t really different sizes...the dress just makes it look that way. She said it’s my posture but of course the side that looks pointer than the other will be the one most photographed at the ceremony. I’m really freaking out and it doesn’t help that it’s $400. That’s more than I expected. She said to bring tape with me and next time bring a strapless bra to compare. But right now, it looks like one boob is fuller than the other.

The seamstress obviously doesn't have experience with this situation. I suggest you ask on your local Facebook wedding group for a good recommendation for somewhere to take it. I would absolutely not let her do another alteration after this.

Your dress can fit your body just fine. Please, please stop thinking that it's you! This is totally her screwing it up.

I think you should 1. call her and have her stop any alterations she may be doing right now. 2. get a second opinion! 3. Search online if you have a store near you that specializes in lingerie. If not, go to nordstrom and explain exactly what you're looking for. Worst case scenario you could have the back of the dress lined so you can wear the right bra. 4. take a deep breath because it'll all work out and please don't think you're "huge", you look beautiful!

I've seen a few of your posts and I'm so sorry it seems like you've had a lot of hurdles over the planning process. I hope your day goes amazing because you deserve it!

So I have nothing to add about your dress exactly, but I just had my first fitting appointment. Afterwards I was really upset and felt like the seamstress was just listening to me and trying to stuff my dress to make it fit, so I went back and picked up the dress. It might not be too late for some of this to be undone from your dress, I'd go back and get it and go to a different seamstress. Also, you can try to get one of the adhesive bras that has the adhesive half way around your back. I can't remember the name of what I'm thinking of.

This is scaring me! I don’t have anything to really add except that I hope you get it worked out! Just say no to duct tape...I can’t imagine someone worth their salt suggesting that!

Isn't just adding tape like putting on a strapless bra. I thought most girls either get cups sewn in or wear a strapless bra. I cannot since the back is see-through and I know the tape is cheap and very tacky...but if it is put on better and not as quickly it could end up being okay?

I think you look beautiful in that dress! I see what you’re talking about a little bit but as someone who hasn’t gone dress shopping yet. I can’t notice anything crazy or anything pokey.

Have you ever seen those bras that look like rubber cutlets? They're completely sticky and give you some protection and lift without straps OR a back. Many stores sell them, and I actually just saw a bunch at Macy's this evening.

I had a similar problem with my dress. The seamstress at my first fitting had me take my strapless bra off and added cups which looked fine until they were actually sewn in. The second fitting I brought my strapless bra just in case and good thing I did because when I put my dress on it looked horrible in my chest area. The seamstress tried to add a second cup to the dress but it didn't help. She then took the cups out completely and had me put my strapless bra back on and added the cups to that which helped. It still looked weird though so she had me take the dress off and she brought it in just around the very top about 1/2". When I put the dress back on with my bra it looked so much better. Maybe try to bring a couple different strapless bras and try moving the cups around.

My seamstress had to do something similar to my dress because the cups just stuck out. I was a little panicked when she started ripping out seems and cutting lace but I trusted her and my dress fits perfect now. There were several spots she had to remove and re-position the lace and she even had to let out the hips. She ended up taking lace from the hem and filling in those spots. During the whole process everything looked weird and out of place but once it came back together it's perfect.

My back isn't exposed completely but it is see through and that is why a strapless bra is not possible. I'm not sure if you can see in this picture. I actually looked up the use of duct tape, fashion tape and athletic tape as an alternative to sticky bras (which don't hold up a big chest) and it is not as uncommon as people think in bridal. That is why when people said to go try on a strapless bra to fix the issue it wasn't possible. I think people also thought these pictures showed a dress that had been altered. It was just pinned and that is why there are awkward bunched parts. It hasn't even been touched yet. The boning is really prevalent in the cup area and it is either use tape or pay a ton of money for her to take out some of it. I'm just responding to your response but I'm making a note to other people who have responded to. I'm pretty sure this discussion is now dead though so I hope I don't annoy anyone.

During my first fitting I thought my boobs looked too pointy so in addition to padded up the seamstress is going to pad out the boning area.

I totally understand freaking out and I’ll admit the bunching and the taping would make me uneasy (especially because who even thinks of duct tape for that?).
HOWEVER, you look absolutely stunning and I see literally nothing wrong anywhere that has a thing to do with your body! You look beautiful and your curves are accentuated beautifully in the gorgeous dress you chose! I can’t see anything odd with your chest at all, in any of the pictures! If it feels wrong I’d say go with a different plan besides the duct tape, but seriously, you look fantastic!
