Alterations appointment gone horrible wrong and now i feel sick...

PrettyinPink, on February 13, 2018 at 3:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 56
I just had my first alterations appointment. Most of it wasn’t her fault and it’s just my body. The dress has weird boning in the breast area and to prevent gaping, she has to put electric so it is stays flat. Well, one side is fine and doesn’t really need that and the other looks super pointed now. Between her putting pins in it and my boobs being slightly different, it just looks awful and my mom is telling me I’m ruining the dress and to leave it as is. I can’t, because if I don’t...my boobs will literally just be in there and not being held up. They said they could add straps, but I don’t want to do that. All of this seems counterintuitive and I should have just picked a dress that fit my shape. The thing is, when she saw me out of the dress with no bra on...we both realized my boobs aren’t really different sizes...the dress just makes it look that way. She said it’s my posture but of course the side that looks pointer than the other will be the one most photographed at the ceremony. I’m really freaking out and it doesn’t help that it’s $400. That’s more than I expected. She said to bring tape with me and next time bring a strapless bra to compare. But right now, it looks like one boob is fuller than the other.

Sorry you are going through this! fittings are nerve wreaking to me, and I see how you can be feeling awful right now, but take a deep breath. I would try different bras and maybe she can sew a cup in that will look more flattering. There has to be a different approach to your problem. Do you have any pictures?

On mobile, hit reply to your post, then the little square with a picture inside above your typing area, choose your photo and when you're done hit reply.

Can you try having cups sewn into the dress instead of a strapless bra, or straps for the dress?

Cups are being sewn in but it’s the boning that is making them look weird and she said reconstructing that part completely is another $100. The cup is only being sewn in for one boob. My boobs aren’t that disproportionate but one lookers fuller than the other even with cups...

Hmm, that's strange, but without seeing a photo of it, I wouldn't know what else to suggest...

My seamstress took the boning out of my dress. I'm not sure that's an option for you since my dress was not strapless - but it's another thing to ask about?

I'm on my laptop now. Sorry! Here is a picture of what I am talking about without using duct tape that somewhat helped it...yes duct tape. She said it works better than a strapless bra. I think it might be the angle, but this side is really cone shaped I feel and the other side looks normal....not sure why again because there isn't a huge difference in fullness.

When the tape was utilized...but I feel like it is kind of odd I have to do this in addition to alterations. So, the day of, I have to have a bridesmaid tape my boobs together...I also have a front picture of the dress when the duct tape was utilized. She literally squeezed my boobs together and taped them like that...does it look weird? I feel like a fat cow.

The excess material under my chest is where she is trimming some of the lace (not the boning) because it bunches up. She is also taking the boning out of the back because it bunches up too. A lot seems to be going into this...and seems counterintuitive. I should have should picked a dress that fits my body type better.

Hmmm;.. there seem to be sooooo much going on! Is there an inset inside? Or you have just a lot of chest? In my opinion there’s nothing wrong with your body and you’re not looking like a fat cow.
Have you tried a with a bra? Maybe a corset? I don’t personally like the way she taped you, in between your boobs it doesn’t look natural, they are too squeezed in together. People don’t have perfect breasts!
I would bring different bras with you for next appointment.
Is she a seamstress from your Bridal boutique ? Do you have the option of a second opinion?

She is the seamstress that my bridal boutique referred me too and I already gave her the money. And she did a really quick job with the duct tape and it wasn't even the right kind...I ran out and bought the first thing that was close to it. And no insert or anything but there is a lot of structure up there already before alterations in the dress. I just have a large chest and full breasts.

I have no advice but I just wanted to post sympathy. The bunching looks terrible and no one should have to duct tape their breasts in their wedding dress.

I hope they can fix it for you.

Can you afford a different seamstress? The way she taped you makes me think she isn’t an expert at this.

I think that you're way over thinking this. I literally see nothing wrong with the first picture you posted with no tape or pins. Why do you feel like you need the in the first place? Your dress is beautiful and you look great in it!
