Alterations appointment gone horrible wrong and now i feel sick...

I just had my first alterations appointment. Most of it wasn’t her fault and it’s just my body. The dress has weird boning in the breast area and to prevent gaping, she has to put electric so it is stays flat. Well, one side is fine and doesn’t really need that and the other looks super pointed now....
I just had my first alterations appointment. Most of it wasn’t her fault and it’s just my body. The dress has weird boning in the breast area and to prevent gaping, she has to put electric so it is stays flat. Well, one side is fine and doesn’t really need that and the other looks super pointed now. Between her putting pins in it and my boobs being slightly different, it just looks awful and my mom is telling me I’m ruining the dress and to leave it as is. I can’t, because if I don’t...my boobs will literally just be in there and not being held up. They said they could add straps, but I don’t want to do that. All of this seems counterintuitive and I should have just picked a dress that fit my shape. The thing is, when she saw me out of the dress with no bra on...we both realized my boobs aren’t really different sizes...the dress just makes it look that way. She said it’s my posture but of course the side that looks pointer than the other will be the one most photographed at the ceremony. I’m really freaking out and it doesn’t help that it’s $400. That’s more than I expected. She said to bring tape with me and next time bring a strapless bra to compare. But right now, it looks like one boob is fuller than the other.

You’re definitely overthinking this and being too critical of yourself. The first picture looks best. The tape honestly looks unnatural. No one has boobs that are pushed together like that and the way the dress sits looks really pointy in front. I’m not sure if that’s because of the tape or how she pinned it but I think the first picture is the most flattering. I wouldn’t be worried about manipulating your chest in any way because you look beautiful without doing so.

Okay so... take a deep breath. Go to the next appoinemnt with more than one bra option, like I said, bring corsets, and different strapless with you.
Your dress is beautiful and having a large chest isn’t a problem. I do too and my dress is similar to yours.
I think your seamstress should be helping you and calming you instead of making you nervous and unsure about your dress. There along she would have lost me as a customer, but if you paid already and you cannot afford a different one, then you’ll need to be strong and think more rationally during the next appointment.
Like PP said, the first picture doesn’t seem to have anything wrong to me! If it is because it’s bunching up she can make other changes besides your chest area where people will notice more. Also a good corset or spanx with the strapless bra might help your posture and make it much lesser!

She has great reviews and I've only heard great things. I should have mentioned she was with another client and I ran back with tape like she suggested I bring back next time (I couldn't wait) and she said it wasn't the right tape and she rushed. She was just trying to calm me down. She is expensive and I don't think she's a cheap seamstress by any means...the bridal store uses her and that is why I am confused.

Maybe you can stop the alteration process with her and get a refund. If you're unhappy with her work, pay for what she's done and stop. You look beautiful. I'm also very full breasted. When you're looking down and your own chest, it will always look like you're showing more. Maybe find another seamstress, go get a WELL FITTED strapless possibly long line bra (I recommend going to Nordstrom for a professional FREE fitting. They are highly trained at measuring and fitting.) Breathe, it's going to be okay. If you're stuck with that seamstress, don't pay another dime until your dress is fitted to you PERFECTLY. Good luck!

No, she has taken the time to make me feel really good. She didn't think I needed the tape and thought it looked fine but she said if I really wanted to go down that path then she could try it. She preferred it without. Your advice is really helpful and I just wanted to say that I wouldn't use her if she made me feel unsure.

The picture without no pins or tape cannot happen because there is a gap like I said and my boobs aren't secure...they are literally just in the cavity of the boning. I can't explain it.

The bunching up is being fixed by trimming the lace. She said she has to pin it because there is a lot of gaping and my boobs are just sitting in the cavity of the boning. So, for them to be supported I need to have some pinning done if that makes sense?

I keep repeating myself and I'm sorry but the first picture is without any alterations and it wasn't flat and there was gapping. Like the trim of the sweetheart neckline was floating basically while my boobs just sat in the boning.

Im just afraid that she’ll touch the lace and then you will be able to notice the alteration on lace. Which in my opinion is worse. But she would be also moving it instead of mending it and then it would be okay.
I’m no seamstress but I feel that if there’s a gap and your boobs don’t sit right doesnt it have to do with the size? Does it have to be a little tighter on you so it adjusts better to your body?
I know questioning won’t help you but you should just all questions and make sure to go over it with her next appoinemnt.
this is the first fitting, I think is always the worst

I understand what you're saying, but I think what other PPs are saying, and what I was coming here to say, is that without knowing how the dress actually fits on you, the first pictures looks the best. Your boobs look good in that picture. In the other pictures, I'm sorry to say, your boobs look too squished together and it doesn't look right. There is a way for your seamstress to take in the bodice so that it fits you and doesn't force you to squish your boobs together. This may require a few fittings but if she is highly recommended and willing to keep trying to make it right, then trust her to complete the job. Btw, from someone who doesn't know you, just looking at your pictures, even if this could never be fixed to your satisfaction, it certainly is not "horribly wrong." The dress, and you, are beautiful, and I can promise you that only you will notice anything "wrong" with your dress if it remains the way it is.

So you don’t think the pinning looks right?

First of all, your dress is beautiful on your body! Secondly, I think your issue is much simpler than all this nonsense she's putting you through. What you need is a great bra with proper support, the bust of the dress to be taken in a bit, and fabric tape to keep your bra taped to your skin and to your dress. A good seamstress would know to recommend these things and would know how to properly adjust the bust on a dress. Instead she's making you feel guilty for picking your dress because you are being led to believe it doesn't fit your body.

Hogwash. Take it somewhere else if you have to. Get a second opinion. This lady is doing nothing but making you second guess yourself and feel bad. It doesn't matter how many good reviews she has; if she makes you feel that way, that's enough sign that you need to take your dress elsewhere.

Best of luck to you. 💛

I'm not sure if it is the pinning or the tape you said you used for your boobs, but your boobs don't look right in the pictures you posted after the 1st pic. Maybe you need something else - a different bra, for instance. But this is just the 1st fitting and often times it looks worse before it looks better. Believe me! I had my dress custom made and nearly cried after my first 2 fittings, wondering if I made the right decision. But by the 3rd and final fitting, it finally came together and I was very happy. It was a bit of an emotional roller coaster!

That would make sense but I can’t wear a strapless bra because the back is see through material and dips low.

I unfortunately cannot wear a strapless bra because I forgot to mention the back is see-through and dips really low so we were going to just do the second picture without the tape but like I said it looks pointed and that is probably how I was going to end up looking

I think it looked fine in the first picture but I had the urge to pull it up and it wasn’t holding me up so she was only doing what was needed to be do I guess.

My fiance does sewing and I shwoed him your pics. He says you should ask for a refund and take it somewhere else. What she's done is butcher your beautiful dress. That wasn't too complex of an alteration and I'd be afraid to have her touch the lace.

She actually said she could reconstruct the boning but that would be $100 alone...but she said that but I feel like my dress is going to be ruined.
