Alteration questions

Lynne, on August 15, 2019 at 8:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

I ordered my dress on August 1st, was told it would be ready for pick up in December. But, it was ready 2 weeks later. Meaning that my dress is home. Yes, it is in a garment bag to keep it safe. Luckily, the bag is white so FH can't see it. I am keeping it at my mom's. He won't go into my mom's bedroom.

Here are my questions.

I was quoted a price from David's Bridal of $175 to remove the zipper and turn it into a corset back. Is that a good price?

The dress is a bit longer than what a tea length should be. Should I have it shortened just a little? It sets right above the ankle. It should be between the ankle and knee. I think it needs to come up a couple of inches.

I don't want to have alterations done until after the holidays. I am currently on a weight loss journey. It will go on, but I can't zip it. I love the idea of turning it into a corset back. I never thought that I would be able to wear anything strapless.

No idea about costs lol. You're definitely going to want to shorten if you want tea length, but you know that already. I'm just here to say you look beautiful Smiley smile

Thank you. I love the dress and can't wait to be able to wear it.

I just want to say that unless you were quoted that price by a seamstress at David’s bridal, don’t believe any alterations prices given to you by the dress attendants. They told my $75 for a hem, but turns out the seamstress said a hem is $150.

That price is a little steep. I had an illusion neckline removed, a corset put in, and a bustle for $150. And that's in WA state where nothing is cheap.

I got my dress at Lupitas Boutique in Yakima. The seamstress doesn't work for them, but works with them. You'd have to call and ask. She was super fast too! Only took 2 days to get everything done!
