Allergy to silver wedding ring? How can I fix it?

Jesi, on March 10, 2012 at 5:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

I was so excited because FH and I found the perfect wedding ring at a little Irish shop on Navy Pier this week. It is sterling silver and beautiful, but I've been wearing it for a few days now and my finger is breaking into really itchy hives. I have another ring that is made from a silver plated spoon which I bought in October and I had to stop wearing that one too because it's making me break out. I don't remember the ring giving me issues until the last week or so. Why am I suddenly allergic to silver? Can I paint the rings with clear nailpolish or something to create a barrier between the metal and my skin? Are there any other tricks I can try? I am heartbroken because after searching so long this ring is the one I've dreamed of.

The woman at the shop said it was pure silver but I guess I could have it checked out. I will definitely call around and see what I can do, I just thought I would check and see if anyone else had been in a similar situation or had a personal anecdote. Thanks Smiley smile

Unfortunately, I also have some metal allergies and the only solution is not to wear them :-(

Could you maybe have it gold plated?

I heard that if you take clear nail polish and coat the back of it, that way the metal is not touching your skin.

I have the same problem, the first ring my FH got me which I LOVED was silver, found out I was allergic to it and had to get a gold one instead. I'm sorry its happening to you too Smiley sad Hopefully you can figure something out to make it work.

I have sensitive skin and I've had reactions to different metals just randomly at different times in my life. You can paint the back of it with nail polish but some part of it will still be touching your skin - like on the insides of the fingers next to it.

Is it stamped 927 so you're sure it's real sterling? If so....

You might have to try a 10k or 14k white gold...... Smiley sad
