Alfred Angelo vs. David's Bridal

His #1 Lady, on April 15, 2014 at 12:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 38

I am probably going to start dress shopping after the school semester is over in late May or early June. I already know that I don't want to spend a lot of money on the dress, so I thought I would start at David's Bridal or Alfred Angelo before going to a boutique. I know David's Bridal teams up with Al's Formal Wear, and Alfred Angelo teams up with Jos A. Bank (which I think was just bought by Al's). What are your opinions on these stores? Is one better than the other?

I bought my dress at AA. I shopped at DB first but I didn't like any of their stuff. It all looked cheap to me but I wasn't going to spend an arm and leg on my dress anyway Smiley winking

I'm an Alfredo Angelo bride Smiley smile Start at DB, then go to AA, then go elsewhere. Start at the cheapest and work your way up.

I think DB offered more variety, but tbh, I didn't like either.

I got mines from David's Bridal during a sample sale that they had. Otherwise, I probably would of went to a boutique because I did not want to spend an arm an a leg on a wedding dress, either. Good luck!

I shopped at bother David's Bridal and Alfred Angelo and found AA a much better experience. At David's Bridal, I felt like one of many (my consultant had 2 other brides she was working with at the same time as me). At AA, I was the only one working with my consultant. On top of that, everyone in the store at AA was kind, friendly and accommodating every time I was in the store. Also, I found that I like the material used on the dresses to be better quality at AA.

As far as matching men's wear, the David's Bridal here uses Men's Warehouse but most places should be able to match colors with DB or AA. You just need to take a look.

I actually started at AA because I thought I had my heart set on the Jasmine Disney Princess wedding gown and while I loved the dress and had a great experience, I fell in love with an Oleg Cassini gown at David's Bridal that same day. Here in Atlanta though, we have David's Bridal Collections which is their couture store (I think there are only 2 or 3 in the US), so it's more upscale and not your typical DB so maybe that's why my consultant was so wonderful. Both of my experiences were great, it just came down to the dress and both gowns were the same price anyway ($1300).

I just had a friend have a terrible experience with DB for bridesmaid dresses and ended up going to AA and they were wonderful.

Honestly, with all of the horror stories on here about David's...I would steer clear!

My own personal experience at AA was terrible, but it might have just been the consultant. She was SO pushy that it was very uncomfortable and she even yelled at my MOH. They did, however, have some really pretty dresses and the prices were pretty reasonable.

I had an awful experience at DB. My SIL in law ended up pulling dresses and putting them on me because the DB employee disappeared.

AA wasn't a positive experience either. I didn't even make it into the store because the lady on the phone was so nasty to me. Both places will give you a good deal, but they definitely need to work on customer service. I do know that experiences vary by location.

I have had friends that have used both. The ones that used AA had a lot of trouble. At one of the AA brides's wedding, all of the beridesmaids straps were breaking off. The other AA bride ordered her dress, it came in with a stain on it. They told her that they could order another and it would take 6 weeks. She called them 8 weeks later and they said "Oh, we called to tell you that we can't order that one, you hasve to come in and order a new dress". Luckily she had enough time. Also, she had the bridesmaids choose their own dresses as long as it was a certain color and did not have a train. They allowed a BM to order a dress with a train in the wrong color (it did not come in her color). She was pissed at the BM, but she also called the store. They stated "well, she insisted on that dress, and we all thought it looked great on it". The BM said that the associates were all saying "you should buy what you like, that's close enopugh"! Therefore, I will be using David's....especially becuase I have one BM out of state.

I went to both. I had a better experience at David's Bridal than I did at Alfred Angelo. The dress at David's bridal was the one to beat for me. Don't deter yourself from the boutiques. If you find a dress you love and they have a sample that either fits or they can alter for you it can be all worth it. I actually found the dress I loved at a boutique and it was a sample the orginal price at the first store was 1695 i found it at another boutique for 1400 and since it was the sample I got a 30% discount! The dress is in perect condition too! It ended up cheaper than the David's Bridal dress!

Honestly, I feel like I have seen every bridal gown and bridesmaid gown now by DB simply because everyone uses them. If you want something more original then maybe try AA or somewhere else. DB is cheap but again I go to weddings and I'm like yup I've seen this dress now more than once.

Are boutiques generally more or less expensive than David's Bridal. Are they also able to add color sashes to a dress like David's Bridal and Alfred Angelo?

I had a horrible experience at DB - but that was based on the consultant (3 of my friends got their dresses from the exact store I shopped at and had a great time). I had a wonderful AA experience (and it's where I got my gown), but I had an amazing consultant. I am a firm believe that the person helping you makes the difference not the store.

As for tuxes, Men's Warehouse just bought out Jos A. Bank, so I doubt there's going to be a difference there.

I ended up at AA - I went to AA first, then across the street (literally) to DB - their service just wasn't the same, there wasn't enough variety, etc....I fell in love with a dress at AA, went right back across the street and bought it.

I actually started at the boutiques and wound up at DB. My boutique experience wasn't the best. The first one was okay, but their selection within my budget ($1200) was slim pickings. The second boutique was horrible. She had 3 or 4 dresses within my budget and wouldn't let me friend into the dressing room with me to help me change...she also implied that I was poor based on my budget. Like, sorry I'm not your typical politician's fiancee clientele. So my BM dragged me to DB even though I didn't want to go. I had the best experience there.

I didn't find out about the AA store around the corner until several months later. They're pretty nice too. That's where the BM dresses came from.

I never tried Alfred Angelo but I loveeeee the dress I bought at David's. I will say try both. But if you fall in love with a dress, that's it. You don't need to search no more.
