Alfred Angelo vs. David's Bridal

I am probably going to start dress shopping after the school semester is over in late May or early June. I already know that I don't want to spend a lot of money on the dress, so I thought I would start at David's Bridal or Alfred Angelo before going to a boutique. I know David's Bridal teams up with Al's Formal Wear, and Alfred Angelo teams up with Jos A. Bank (which I think was just bought by Al's). What are your opinions on these stores? Is one better than the other?

I went to a boutique first. DB was never a consideration to me - too many horror stories and I didn't really want my dress to come from a chain store like that. I have heard great things about AA and they seem to have some really lovely dresses.

I had two appointments since last week, one at a designer boutique and one at DB. My DB experience was slightly better, despite the difference in the consultants approach. At DB, the consultant was barely around. At the boutique she spent every minute with me. However, she was a little iffy in regards to budget (small-ish) and she made weird comments about my size. I also hated pretty much everything she brought me. At DB, some of the dresses were nicer and the one I fell in love with was more expensive than anything I was shown at the boutique. This was because my sister was unaware of the price when she brought it to me, so it is a little higher than my budget.

I love the fact that Alfred Angelo has the "Jasmine" line and some of their bridesmaid dresses actually come in a color called amethyst which is one of my colors. I'm going to try both and hey if their service sucks I'll just have to look elsewhere. I definitely know that I want my dress to have red on it, so I probably won't go to a bridal shop that doesn't have this option

I went to DB and saw nothing that I even wanted to try on. Went to a local boutique and got my Casablanca gown for $1300 and have had INCREDIBLE service. It almost feels like I'm friends with the ladies now there. The owner was even disappointed she didn't get to see me in my dress during my first fitting. Overall I just feel like a boutique would offer a more personal experience and there are ones around with reasonable priced gowns!

I like David's bridal better and they have lesser priced dresses. We went to AA for my friends wedding and I hated my experience there. I joke ppl aren't the biggest fb fans but I've always have luck there.

I would go to one that has the most variety of style you are looking for. I love the Vera Wang collection at DB. But i went on a busy day, where it was just too overwhelming to shop, and the employees there could care less about me. I left with my bridal party and went to a local boutique. I ended up with a Mori Lee Smiley smile

I will take all of this into consideration. I live in Houston, so I'm sure there are plenty of boutiques to choose from. It's just so overwhelming I don't even know where to begin!

I shoped both places on line and then decided to go to the stores. I started at DB first but then fell in love with something that wasn't even on my list. I started at DB because they had more of what I like than AA.

I got mine from Alfred Angelo and I love it. I looked at David's and there were some pretty dresses that I liked, but nothing could compare to the one at Alfred's. I'd also say that the experience at Alfred's was a little better. Do you have a Men's Warehouse near you? They team up with David's. I would just try both and keep an open mind.

I bought my dress from DB. BM dresses bought at AA. Totally different experience at AA. It seemed more personable whereas I felt like a number at DB. But I did find my dress there!

We have both near us. I'm in Houston, so there are stores everywhere. I'm just concerned with getting a quality dress without spending $5000! :-)

I was not willing to spend more than $1000 on my dress, so I got mine at David's. I love it and couldn't be happier. I had a great experience there but I went on a weekday morning so there was fewer people.

Was pretty positive that DB teamed with Men's Warehouse and Alfred Angelo's teamed with Al's. I know that's how the Baybrook/Webster stores are anyway.

I enjoyed my time more at DB, but found the dress I loved at AA. MY consultant at AA wasn't super helpful, and didn't recommend me to try different veils and such. And in the heat of the moment, it's easy to forget to try those on too. At DB though, my consultant was super helpful and honestly opinionated(as in, she told me what she really thought of the dress on me, instead of just trying to sell it).

My appointment is Saturday morning with David's Bridal and after reading all the comments on these forums, I called Alfred Angelo to book an appointment for Saturday afternoon. Wish me luck!
