Alcohol Ideas for Wedding

Tess, on May 13, 2011 at 6:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

I would like to have alcohol at my wedding. I would like an alcoholic punch, beer, and champagne. However, my wedding and reception will be in the middle of nowhere on top of a mountain. My parents do not drink but they said if me and my fiance paid for the alcohol on our own then it is okay with them ( they are paying for the wedding). Me and my fiance are young (early 20's) and I don't think many of our guest would like wine. Therefore, I was not planning on having it, But I figured a punch would be good for the females.

Does anyone have any ideas of how we could have beer? Would a keg be distasteful? What about buying a bunch of bottled beer? We would have to bring whatever we get up to the retreat on our own.

Also, does anyone have any ideas for an alcoholic punch for our summer wedding. Something fruity? Our colors are pink and yellow, and we have a rustic southern theme going. Our wedding is in TN.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!

What non-alcoholic beverages are you serving? And what is your budget?

Who will be serving the alcohol to ensure that no one under the age of 21 will be drinking?

Yes, a keg is distasteful- if you can see it. Behind a bartenders stand- not distasteful. Rememebr- it's a wedding, not a frat party.

Bottled beer is not a bad option- but check with your venue. Many do not allow glass containers, and you don't want cans. You can also have your bartender add more beer to ice to cool it as supply goes down, then you can take any unused beer home.

Your best option- spend the money and hire a professional bartending service. As someone who likes to drink, I'm not a fan of alcoholic punches. I want to know what's in it- and I think you need more variety than that. A professional bartending service will provide the standard drinks, mixers, and someone with the expertise to do it all properly. They are also legally liable for anything that happens as a result of the drinking- such as a car accident, and checking IDs to ensure minors are not drinking.

    Here are my thoughts:

    1) on top of a mountain.....keeping the booze cold. Issue. Coolers? but then you have to drag the stuff up. Will the liquor store be wiling to deliver? If so, charges? If not, who will haul it up?

    2) keg vs. bottles. Kegs are HEAVY...getting on top of mtn? Bottles...more expensive and where are you going to do with all the empties?

    3) Punch. Yeahhhh....that is where you can get into trouble with hard liquor. I would stay away.

    4) bubbly. we are saving cost and not have champagne. We are doing toasts with whatever is in their hands.

Depending on your buget and mode of transporting the booze, I would stick with beer and a little bit of wine. keg is cheaper, but you are limited on variety. Bottles are more expensive, but you get more variety. AND you can possily return unopened bottles back to the liquor store.

We are having 10 cases of variety bottled beers, 10 bottles of 1.5 L mixed wine, soda, ice, and delivery for under $500

If you can't afford a pro bartender, or hide your 1/2 keg, than simply put it where it won't be a major center of attraction in your pics. Initially we were going to put it behind our bar, however, we realized the bartender(a friend) would have limited mobility. So, we are putting ours on the deck of our venue. It is sort of our outside lounge area. What's a biker themed wedding without a keg of beer on the deck? It would be like failing to play Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild" or The Doors' "Roadhouse Blues."

First of all, by on top of a mountain I mean a retreat that is actually an old barn that has been renovated. It has a kitchen so I will have a fridge. And there is a gravel road up to it.

My budget is 6,000 dollars for the wedding. But since my fiance and I have to pay for the alcohol I would hate to spend more than $500. Therefore, I can't afford very much variety.

I hate that y'all disagree with my punch idea. I really had my hopes up for it. I do not want anyone to get really drunk so it may not be best to have it out for anyone. And it never crossed my mind how I would control underaged people from drinking it.

    I like the Sangria idea!

The non-alcoholic beverages I will be serving are lemonade, sweet tea, and coffee.

*Thank you all for your advice*

I have to agree with be careful about serving alcoholic punch. It is far too easy for people to drink too much, as it will go down far too easy.

Sangria will do the same thing. It tastes fruity, yet packs a punch as you put wine and brandy in it.

You need to be really careful, especially if you do not have a venue, caterer and/or professional bartender pouring the beverages. If anyone is hurt, or they hurt or kill someone leaving your reception after drinking, you will be held responsible as well.

Non-Alcoholic drinks should most definitely include sodas too! $500 isn't out of the question for a pro-bartender. Depending on your state laws, you may just be able to hire someone who is licensed to serve. I can't believe I'm saying this- but check Craigslist for a bartender who will work cheap for you.

With many companies, you can buy you own alcohol.

But I do think you need more of a variety. At least a vodka, a rum and a whiskey- with mixers.

A good punch... malibu rum... Fuze diet fruit juice and sprite. Make it as strong or as weak as you like. Another option for the women are the Captain Morgain bottled drinks. Wave runners, strawberry daiquris. etc. not a lot of alcohol in them. Do you have a hookup at a bar or vfw, that perhaps you could get in on their ordering to get it cheaper? DO NOT let anyone talk you into Jungle Juice or you'll have a mess on your hands! lol
