Aisle Runner or no?

Jennifer, on May 15, 2013 at 11:08 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

I see one for $50 online. That's 5-0. Holy mula! I'm just curious to see how many of you have heard of there NOT being one while in a park, on the grass? If my flower girl throws a lot of petals down, will that suffice?

I've never been to an outdoor wedding. But i would say that sounds fine. You don't need a runner

I don't think it's necessary. I'm just using petals for mine although I'm on a patio not grass. Just make sure you get those heel protectors so you don't get stuck.

My wedding was outdoors on a golf course. If I had to do it over, I would not use a runner. My heels kept poking through and I was afraid I was going to get stuck and/or trip with every step, so almost every picture of me coming down the aisle shows me looking down. Flower petals are the way to go.

I was at an outdoor wedding and the runner kept blowing over. Ushers and guests were putting their feet on it along the aisle to try and keep it down for the bride. They finally gave up and it laid on the side of the aisle almost all the way down. I am having an outdoor wedding and just sticking to flowers from the FG.

I've never seen an aisle runner that didn't create an issue. It snagged, caught on heels, one bridesmaid nearly tripped because her heel fell through, started blowing around. Ugh. None for me thanks. Why can't aisle runners be like the red carpet? Not specifically red, but an actual carpet with a rubber / plastic bottom. Something sturdy?

OTW, I have seen carpets as aisle runners. It looks weird on sand or grass -- totally not natural.

Kim P. sums up what I have seen with the light weight runners outdoors.

From what I've seen runners are more trouble than they're worth. Heels cut through or the girls trip walking on them, they tend to want to blow away, they tear

    Skip it.

DO NOT use a runner for an outdoor event, ever. They're always a pill. Had one 3 weeks ago where the runner kept blowing over and was a huge mess.

Don't use an aisle runner, its just extra cost and really unnecessary. I think petals will be fine.

Nope. Not even using one. My wedding is outdoors as well. I know where the groom will be and I'll be elegantly beelining it in that direction. No runner needed.

I'm not having one. If you were having an inside ceremony & were dead set on it I'd say maybe go for it, but outside, in the grass, etc. it will have holes in it before you even walk down. If you waited for it to be placed before you were to walk down, you could, but I still feel like it is not needed. The wind can blow it out of place, etc.

I'm not doing one. But if you do try renting one. Or buy one that you don't personalize so you can sell later to make back some money.

We aren't using one, it's just an accident waiting to happen. I am making silk rose petal "bumpers" to use instead....no mess, easy to pick up and use again!

Thank you girls! You've just convinced me to skip it completely. The last thing I want is.for.my heel to be dragging the entire runner with me down the aisle. Lol

    You're amazing ladies. Thank you!

Beautiful picture of the flowers instead. I wonder, how can I do something similar with the toulle.on the chairs like that? How are they held in place?

Well, I guess I'm on the other side... I am using one, but for other reasons. My ceremony will be on a terrace and the concrete isn't smooth. So, I didn't want my dress snagging on all the little raised areas on the concrete. If it was in the grass, no way. If it wasn't for the rough concrete though, I wouldn't have one either.

I am having the venue use white duct tape to hold down the aisle runner too!

Trish, it will probably be fine on the concrete.

I did one wedding where they had a runner on a terrazzo floor and it was slip-sliding around -- a real hazard.

Keep your aisle perfectly straight & secure, with the Original Aisle Runner Stakes.

Aisle Runner Stakes were designed with outdoor weddings in mind, to secure the runner to the grass so you don't have to fear tripping or that your runner will blow away in the breeze.

They can be used on any runner, whether fabric, vinyl, plain or decorated. No longer will you fear tripping, or that your runner will be caught in a breeze. Also, if you want to keep your personalized runner for a keepsake after the wedding, they won't tear the runner.

    A Perfect Aisle, every time!
