Afternoon wedding - cater it or have a grazing table

Paige, on September 7, 2020 at 10:19 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
FH and i are moving our date to October 11 of this year. We chose October 16th at first, but with that being a Friday we thought it would be better to move to the weekend for our guests. The 11th is a Sunday so we are thinking of having the wedding start at 2-2:30 and end the reception around 5-5:30. Is that an okay time frame? Also should we cater for this time frame or would a grazing table be better? Do not plan on dancing, just ceremony, drinks, and food/snacking.

I think a grazing table during Covid is not such a good idea but catered hors d'oeuvres at a buffet station with servers would be okay.

We were planning an early afternoon wedding before Covid. We were going to have food served as though it was in the evening. Passed Hors d’oeuvres, buffet with prime rib and chicken, full bar & cake.

For sure it seems you can forego a meal! But if you can do a brief cocktail hour or just a cake and Punch that would be good

I agree with JM Sunshine. While you don't need to serve a full meal during this time, I would limit the number of hands on the food given the pandemic.

You could do a modified graving table and do it with prepackaged snacks! I agree that a traditional grazing table is a bad idea with COVID right now but if it is all prepackaged/wrapped then no one is touching each others food!

Agree with this. One of my cousins had a gorgeous table with the food in small folding take-out boxes, and it looked really classy while also allowing us to eat food safely. Wish I had a picture of theirs, but they looked like the one attached.
