Hey. So...long story short, in college I became involved in a verbally and physically abusive relationship (let's call this person Jeff). He cheated on me, was extremely manipulative, would often threaten suicide when I tried to break away, and would hurt himself. Eventually my parents had to intervene and he was blocked on everything. If i hadn't moved across the country shortly thereafter, my dad definitely would have made me get an RO. Anyway, after I moved I would get calls from blocked numbers, or a slew of emails from him. They begin to dwindle but then every so often they would spike up again. He, even recently, attempts to look at all of my social media through fake names or other people's accounts. Any time I discovery a crack in my security, I act immediately. Living on the other side of the country, this didn't make me feel unsafe. However, I am planning my wedding to take place where I grew up. He lives and works about an hour and a half away, (cont'd below)

I tried to regulate the friends in common as best I could- but I suppose some have slipped through the cracks. Completely coincidentally, his brother has just become good friend's with my FH's really close friend...and it's weird because I feel like I just can't get completely away no matter what I do Smiley sad

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this @LuckyAK!

I just wanted to chime in about WW's website options - if you do want to have a website.

    1) I think it's a good call not to put your last names on the website!

    2) You can password protect your WW website

    3) Make your WW website "unsearchable" - this just means that if someone goes to ww.com and tries to find your website by searching either of your names that your website will not appear in the results (so you'll want to do the opposite of the support article I'm including)

    4) Don't include a guest book page or apply the settings where guest book messages have to be approved before the are posted!

If you ever need help just email support@weddingwire.com!

We have a similar ex. Hugs to you! So glad you've finally found the happiness you deserve with the right person! Don't let him ruin that for you. There's excellent advice here!

Civil Papers are served by the Sheriffs Office in the district he lives in.

You don't have to have any contact with him.

I didn't read all the comments, so forgive me if this has already been suggested. But I would definitely look into hiring a security guard for your wedding along with password protecting your wedding website as PP's have suggested. My sister just recently dealt with a stalker ex boyfriend, and this went on for over a year. He followed her to work, broke into her apartment, damaged her vehicle, tried to steal her dog, and tried to get her fired. The company she worked for hired a security officer for her at one point. Definitely don;t take this lightly (and it doesn't appear that you are), but this guy sounds potentially dangerous. People do crazy things when they "love" someone. So please, as someone who works in law enforcement, hire a security guard, and give yourself some peace of mind on your big day. Hoping everything works out in your favor, and that he doesn't show up!

ETA: RO's are served by the police in a situation like this.

Sorry that you are dealing with this concern. That must make things even more stressful. I have a web site that is password protected due to my job and my fiance's job and us not wanting anyone to know where our wedding is that doesn't have the password.

I don't think wedding websites are neccessary. For many years they didn't exist and we were just fine lol.

That said I might also consider hiring security if you haven't already. I had a stalker many years ago and I know how scary it can be!

Every time someone posts their boudoirs, makes a wedding website with a lot of identifying information, posts their details on face book, they leave themselves vulnerable in some way, whether perceived or real.

    Keep it close kids.

Please don't listen to @Lakyn. Nothing sounds worse than wedding guests who want to celebrate and who may be drinking carrying weapons. Hire professional security. Notify police in the city where your wedding is, and in the city where he lives. Get a DVPO if needed (that would be a question for a lawyer or the magistrate). If you want a website, password protect it. Don't include your last names. Make your registry not searchable.

I agree with everything previously posted, but also, don't forget about your online registries. You may want to make up a fun fake name to put your registries under and just let your guests know. Also perhaps consider posting an obviously fake date on the registries so they can't be looked up that way.

Change your phone number and block his emails first off.

Set your FB to private unless friends and make some cuts.

I have to echo Celia on the boudoirs. Damn, ladies...the photos are always gorgeous and I understand why you want to post them, but please...don't. The wrong a-hole could find them, and you really, really don't want that. Let them go directly to the party for whom they were intended.

And that's all I'm going to say about that.
