Affordable wedding bands?

Whitney, on April 17, 2022 at 7:13 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 2 12

Hi there! My fiancé and I were shopping for pretty basic wedding bands, and we were shocked how expensive his was going to be at Kay's. We're both looking for white gold -- though, I'm looking for 2 mm, and he's seeking something 4-6 mm and flat. Any retailer suggestions? I've seen great prices on Walmart and Etsy. Though with Etsy, I'm not sure how you guarantee that what you're getting isn't sterling silver.

Appreciate the help!

Online stores tend to be cheaper since they don't have to pay for overhead. Check out James Allen and Blue Nile. Blue Nile also has some showrooms if you want to see them in person as well. I definitely would avoid silver though.

I think if you search through Etsy and specifically filter for white gold you will find scores of them from reputable sellers who guarantee product authenticity.

Find a local family owned jeweler in your area. The big box stores (like Kay’s) markup way more than the smaller stores do.

We also have been wedding band shopping, and near fell out of the store in shock at some of the "local family owned jewelry store" pricing!! I didn't think Kay and Zales were that expensive, especially since they were running sales. AND the lovely clerk at Zales told me they pretty much run different sales every month. In addition, you can go on their websites and actually buy something. If you don't like it you can return it to their store. You can also ask to see their estate jewelry. I saw a band there that I am seriously considering. The problem with Etsy is the return policy. Many charge a restocking fee - 20 %. . On something so special, I want to be able to see the ring on my finger next to my engagement ring, so that leaves Etsy out all together.

Avoid mall stores and big box retailers such as Kays. Stick with independent jewelers. My city has a whole building full of wholesale jewelers.

Blue Nile is a decent option - they have showrooms with a limited selection to try on, but they have an excellent return policy so you could order a few to try on and return what you don't like. They often have good sales around the holidays and I would recommend waiting for those - their rings come in very quickly.

Try Macy’s and Kohl’s or a local diamond exchange. You can also try the diamond district in NYC depending on where you live.

I purchased ours both through Kay online. His is yellow gold and mine is white gold. Both have diamonds. I paid around $900 for both (on sale).
If you don’t mind purchasing pre-owned I know Kay and Zales have outlet stores online as well.

Thanks everyone! We found that the online retailers (Blue Nile and James Allen) had the best prices for comparable products. We're also lucky enough to live near showrooms for both, so that gave us some confidence when we bought!

I got FH's wedding band from Manly Bands online. Of course, that's AFTER I spent $400 on one from what I thought was Manly Bands, but turned out to be a scam -_-. So his ring turned out to be pretty expensive lol. But Manly Bands has some great quality rings and their prices range greatly, depending on materials. They also sent a free silicon ring he can wear for work, or our Honeymoon, etc. I agree with some of the others though, online may be a better deal than jewelry stores in the mall. Just check them on like trust pilot or something before you order. I don't want you to lose out on money like I did!
