Affordable Pittsburgh Venue Suggestions

Kimberly, on December 11, 2015 at 2:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hi All,

I'm looking to have an affordable reception in the Pittsburgh area in Fall 2016 (probably September or October, but the date isn't set in stone yet). I need a lot of help as I'm living in California and will be doing a lot of planning from out of town. I have a total wedding budget of about $12,000 for everything. I'm not entirely sure of what I want yet, but I like the elegant ballroom look. I'm not against a Friday wedding either if it would allow me to afford a nicer venue.I will probably end up wearing an A-line "princess" gown. I just need a place for the reception (not the ceremony, I'll be looking into Catholic churches for that). If you could send me information on venues, costs, etc., I would really appreciate it!!

I'm from Pittsburgh. How many guests? Since you mentioned ballroom, I'm guessing you'll have close to 100 guests, at least? I found nice Pittsburgh venues to be waaaaaay more expensive than I thought! Especially if you want a ballroom style wedding, just be prepared. Sept / Oct is also the height of wedding season (fall is so popular now!).

If you want to save money, it might be best to try to have it during the day (but you and your guests would probably have to be gone by 3 or 4pm, that's no fun, right?) I know the Chadwick in Wexford offers cheaper day-time wedding packages.

My advice: Find a place that won't nickle and dime you. All-inclusive is really a better way to go, i.e. "$100 per person". I also don't like places that charge you just for walking through the door (That's how the mansions in the city do it, $5 - $8K just to step in side, then they nickle and dime you on the food and booze).

I choose Seven Springs, its 45 mins outside of Pittsburgh. It was AMAZING! You could probably afford their buffet option and have a beautiful wedding there. They also offered great guest rates for the hotel rooms.

Hi Kimberly, welcome to WW! Make sure to upload a picture for your avatar (instead of the default double rings) so that we can get to know you and tell you apart from all the other double rings. Also, you'll get more responses with a different picture, because the rings can be associated with spammers/trolls Smiley smile Instructions here: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/forum-lingo-frequently-asked-questions/b433c40c1a62b96a.html

You should really look through the vendor section on WW, make sure to use the filters on the left-hand side to help you narrow down!

    Hi K,

Thanks for the input! Yeah, we'll probably have around 125-150 guests. I'll definitely check out Seven Springs- that sounds nice!! I'd prefer not to do a day-time wedding-- if I have to do something to save money, I'd rather it be a Friday wedding. I'll definitely keep your advice in mind about the all-inclusive when looking into places.

My wedding was a Friday. Friday was just as expensive as Saturday at all the places I looked at Smiley sad I chose Friday because all the Saturdays were already booked (I planned mine in about 5 months).

Let me know what you find! Good luck

Think outside that box. My sister had her reception at an old glass factory on the South Side, and it turned out to be amazing! There are a lot of great places in Pittsburgh that won't break the bank.

My budget is a lot less than yours, but I second looking for some different venues! I loved Succop Nature Conservancy but they might not have the look you're going for. Their grounds are amazing.

Succop is pretty! And basically free to use the grounds, correct?

Yes, I agree with the others. 12k for 150 guests in a ballroom doesn't seem doable in the city, but think outside the box (I.E. Nature preserves, art studios) and you may find something you like

We used Wiiams Country Club in Weirton WV. It's about 30 minutes from Robinson. The view is magical, their DOC rocks and the food it more than amazing.

Hey, native Pittsburgher here though I live in Nevada now. I actually have a suggestion for your church, Sacred Heart in Shadyside is absolutely lovely. Beautiful old stone church.

I went to camp through the Episcopal church (also gorgeous) nearby. I have always loved the outside of Sacred Heart.

And though I haven't lived there in.....12 years I think, I second the recommendation to look into unusual venues. Pittsburgh is an old steel town and there are SO MANY giant old facilities that are being rehabbed to other uses. And remember, it can and does snow in October. Turtlenecks were required under all of my Halloween costumes growing up. Don't count on good weather.
