Affordable honeymoon without flying ??

Tashawnna, on January 22, 2011 at 12:03 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

I am absolutely terrified to fly so FH and I were planning on taking a cruise to the Bahamas for our honeymoon. However, now he's decided he would like to go to an all-inclusive resort. I am wondering if there is any place like that that we could possibly drive so far and then take a boat? or something in the states perhaps? Any suggestions would be extremely appreciated. Also, what does "all-inclusive" really include?

I know Hilton Head in South Carolina is really nice-- they may have some resorts out there that are all inclusive? I went with my family there for vacation, and took a day trip to downtown Savannah, georgia and it was a really neat place.

Just do a google search for all-inclusive resorts. I wanted to go to hawaii really really bad but when I started pricing honeymoons to hawaii... well lets just say its not gonna be possible lol. Our budget is very small (in our case neither me or my FH have a passport), my friend that got married last year got passports for her and her husband and its 150 per person, so they way I see it is I would much rather but that $300 towards something for the wedding or our honeymoon, which we're going to myrtle beach for a week at a very nice hotel. And just some advice tashawanna... when your looking for resorts, be prepared for honeymoon package prices... the ones I found in myrtle beach were over $1,000 and romance packages were around $900, which were basically the same thing. And really all thats different with honeymoon packages than a normal room is that you get champagne upon arival and a fruit basket, dinner and a show tickets for 2 and a massage for 2 (massage is only available at..

...some resorts not all). So we just went with a normal room, and for the time our honeymoon will be (Sept) we got a week for around $750. I told my FH if we want champagne that bad we can just buy our own and bring it with us instead of paying an extra $300 to have it when we arrive, and he totally agreed with me on it Smiley smile

We are going on a cruise to the bahamas for our honeymoon. we picked a non peak date so we could get a balcony cabin and still pay the same as we would for a cheap cabin in june! we are driving down to the port in FL. i dont wanna fly either.

I'd say look into the Florida Keys. I'm not a fan of flying either so you could also consider going to the doctor and getting a prescription for Ativan/Lorazepam. They will only give you a few pills (to get you there and back) but they are so worth it. You're basically tranquilized and can sleep on the plane but you can still function. It's beautiful, I tell ya.

I can assure you that being on a plane is really not that bad, but if you really insist on not flying, I suggest that you go on your cruise. That's about the closest that you'll get to an all inclusive resort. If he's worried about the drinks, they really aren't ghat expensive. I don't know how far you plan on driving, but I suggest that you don't waste a lot of honeymoon time on the road. That could be time spent having fun. @Chelsea you don't need a passport to go to Hawaii if you are a US citizen. I wanted to go to, but the plane ride turned me off. It would be 8 or 9 hours for me an I hate long trips.

I think what my fiance and I are going to do is just book a stay nearby in the NICEST rooms available. I'm talking the presidential suite. Then, we're going to enjoy the nicest part of our city that we usually can't afford. Considering how long I've lived where I do, I have never explored it. Now we're taking the opportunity (unless someone suddenly gives me a 5,000 dollars...then I'm going out of the country, lol) to just have fun where we live. It's not a exotic honeymoon, but we're going to have a good time enjoying each other.

Goodluck with your search (just commented on your other post). Not to sound corny, we are in the same boat. We can't decide between a cruise or all inclusive resort. We are talking to a travel agent friend and may see a travel agent today for more ideas. We are afraid of spending all this money and having hidden fees. Travel agents are free to use so I would suggest you go see one. It may help you decide. Its also cheaper to book through then than through the cruise directly (or so I have heard).

And if you book through a travel agent (though I've heard it's more EXPENSIVE) they can plan everything for you Smiley smile

Edwina I knew that we didn't need passports for hawaii, that was just my first choice for a honeymoon location is the US, and that was just more than we could afford, and we honestly didn't wanna pay for plane tickets. We definitely didn't wanna go to Florida, just because of the long drive, like you said that time could be spend having fun, where I live we're like 4-5 hours away from Myrtle Beach and our main thing we wanted was a beach, and that was the closest one as well as (IMO) one of the cleanest I've ever been too.

Depending on where you live a cruise may be a Bed and Breakfast

You can do both. I live in south florida and there are tons of "day cruises" from palm beach, ft. lauderadale and miami to the bahamas. This is what alot of the locals take to get back and forth from the states to the bahamas. There is Discovery Cruise line ($179 pp and roundtrip but its cheaper to book the cruise and stay package), celebration cruise line (which you have to call about ferry services), and cloudX (but I not sure if they are still running). But I must warn that if you decide to take a cruises in the summer that is hurricane season with a major storm in that area always around labor day.
