Aerialist at wedding?

Victoria, on June 24, 2018 at 12:52 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15
So my fiancé and I are performers. (Hes a drummer, I'm a hula hoop dancer, fire performer and budding aerialist).
Has anyone been to a wedding with aerialists? How was it done? Was it too much?
I would love to have him drum while I do a short dance on an aerial hoop then while his band continues to play, I stop performing and have another aerialist take over and my fiancé and I and dance together. Then afterwards everyone can dance.

I'm not really sure if I understand what the aerial hoop is - would this be like a hoop that's suspended or lowered from the ceiling? I am a huge fan of drumming and fire spinning though, so I think the whole thing sounds awesome and very you!

This sounds unique - is it logistically possible at your venue? And I'm assuming you would have to change out of your wedding clothes for it - do you have time for that and would you put your outfit back on before your dance? I'm not sure what I would think as a guest... it would definitely be unforgettable.

Yes that's what it is! Ive attached a picture. My first choice would be to do a fire dance but no fire is allowed at the venue 😞. And thanks! I feel like it would suit us

I would have to speak with a rigger and confirm with the venue that its allowed but it has very sturdy exposed beams throughout the ceiling and it looks like aerial equipment can be attached. And my dress is pretty easy to put on, just a bra like hook and a zipper. I would get a bodysuit to wear under the dress that I'd perform in.
I was just looking for some opinions before I looked further into this

That sounds awesome! I remembered seeing something similar on a wedding show but my searching skills only turned up something similar but much more circusy on four weddings. Four weddings was big and at their trapeze huge studio with lots of performances. The one I remember (but don't remember which show) was a much smaller studio and the courtyard/grassy area behind it and was much less orchestrated, just the couple performing then any friends who wanted to.

I mean, I’ve been to weddings with aerialists because I am an aerialist (specializing in pole) but sadly I’ve never seen aerialists performing because we’re always “off the clock”, so to speak. I think it sounds amazing!

Are you thinking of performing yourself?

planning a routine is so stressful, I don’t know if I’d wanna take that on on my wedding day.

First of all...you two sound amazing and super fun. I've never been to a wedding with an aerialist but, it sounds pretty cool. I guess it depends on your guests. You know them best. Would they be into it?

Sounds awesome, but I would definitely check with your venue. Besides it being physically possible, it may be a liability for them. What if the beams are not strong enough, or you got injured? If they do allow it, they make you sign something saying they are not liable if you get hurt during the routine.

I actually just messaged them and they said they've had aerial performers there before. I also have specialty insurance if they needed to see that.
Talking about this is actually getting me really excited! If I can pull this off it would be so amazing
