Advice on what to do about Videographer

My videographer was two hours late. He apologized and said he misread the time to be there. The night of my wedding he told me to expect a wedding teaser in 4-5 days. My videographer was two hours late. He apologized and said he misread the time to be there. The night of my wedding he told me to expect a wedding teaser in 4-5 days. Well over two weeks later still nothing so two days ago I sent him a face book message which he read and did not reply to. Then today he messages me our teaser video and then tells me the reason it took so long was because his hard drive crashed and he lost almost all of our footage. He said he was able to recover enough for the teaser, the full ceremony, and maybe some of the reception. I was crying on the phone just devastated. He offered to shoot a couples video of us whenever we want to try to make up for it. Said it will be amazing and we'll love it. My husband wants me to tell him we just want a partial refund and be done with it. I was thinking about taking the video but I don't know if he's reliable enough. I am also really sad about losing something I will never get back. What do you all think?

A couples video? Wtf is a couples video?! I'd be telling him I wanted my video and I wanted at least a partial refund, because that footage is irreplaceable. As a professional, he should have had backups of your video, not just had it on ONE hard drive.

I shot the photos at my brother's wedding years ago ( I am NOT a pro photog by any means, I just happened to have a nice camera and knew some tricks of the trade because I apprenticed with a photographer for awhile) and I STILL run across copies of his photos everywhere.

This is his problem, he needs to make it right. A couples video is NOT going to make it right.

I would absolutely be asking for a FULL refund, that is irreplacable, priceless footage gone. What the hell are you going to do with a random video of you and your DH just hanging around? Doing what? Fuck that.

Ask for a full refund, the video teaser, and all of the raw video footage. This is unacceptable and extremely unprofessional.

A good photographer/videographer ALWAYS has backup gear and their work backed up as well. Did you confirm with him prior to your wedding about the time? If so, then he is full of BS. At this point, I would demand for a discount.

I agree with Pps, a full refund, teaser, and raw footage. This is unacceptable.

I'm sorry you lost all your footage! I'd be absolutely devastated. I think you should ask for all your money back just to avoid and further disappointment from this vendor.

Wow I am so so so sorry this happened to you. I would be so devastated. I am devastated enough from our photographer not taking enough if me and my bm, and many blurry first look photos of the front of me. Fortunately, I will still have a nice video and some still shots taken from the video to hopefully capture what our photographer didn't. My photographers computer crashed as well and he said he backed everything up...I'm questioning if he really did. I really really hope you can have some kind of positive resolution. It's awful when you have the wedding of your dreams, and one of your vendors messes up so incredibly bad.

Blood / turnip. Asking for it and getting are two different things. Granted, she is owed and was wronged. This here is why you deal with pros who are accountable. This person was not. The contract governs terms. Lack thereof only helps the offender.

This stinks! I am so sorry! I'd expect a partial refund if I were in your position.

How awful! I would ask for any footage and my money back. I would also leave a review of this vendor to save another couple the trouble. It is nice that he said he would film videos again but at this point you have to ask yourself if you can even trust him to do that?

He burned you twice already. Get your money back in cash.
