Advice needed for Catholic and Non-religious!!

Gayle, on January 15, 2020 at 5:36 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 2
Hey fellow brides! I am in desperate need of some advice. I am Catholic and want to make sure our wedding is accepted by the Church. However, we can't afford a wedding reception near the church, and we both want a wedding outside. So I was thinking we could have a Catholic ceremony a few days before (on a weekday) and then a big wedding outside (with a not Catholic officiant) at a venue further away where we can afford on the weekend. Any other Catholic brides know if this would be allowed for the Catholic Church??

My understanding is that the Catholic church prohibits or at least strongly discourages second ceremonies, on the theory that this would appear to put them on a par with the Catholic ceremony and/or suggest that the Catholic ceremony was not enough. However, you'd really need to talk to your priest about this.

I’m having an outdoor wedding and a separate catholic wedding at church earlier/later for similar reasons do you. Locations are far out. I’m having a priest still do a blessing even though the actual sacrament is the church ceremony which is in my opinion, even better with a smaller intimate crowd(I.e 4-10 people max who will probably be family) You can also have a different officiant altogether at your outdoor ceremony. The Catholic Church is slowly changing outdoor wedding policy (so far two states only allow this!)
