Addressing Wedding Invitations

Jennifer, on September 15, 2021 at 11:22 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10
I know it’s customary to handwrite address on envelopes. I plan on using a cute little embosser for our return address, but I’m dabbling with the idea of lightly printing (like a super light gray) the Guest Addresses and then hand tracing them with a brush pen. Is this acceptable? Or is it considered “cheating”? I’m not paying a calligrapher and don’t want to.

If it makes it easier for you, do it! Is it cheating or is it smart, right!

Haha although I have pretty cursive handwriting, it’s not “calligraphy” at all. I’m thinking of buying a light box, printing out the address (with size and font that I like) on paper, then when I put my envelopes on top of the paper and light box, the light should make it easy to trace.

I get the handwritten calligraphy I want without spending the $3-5 per envelope that people will throw away…

If having beautiful calligraphy addresses on your envelopes is important enough for you to go through all those steps, then I say go for it girl! This was a really ingenious way to go about it. I am waaaaay too lazy to do all that for an item that people are going to immediately throw in the trash LOL My handwriting isn’t great, but that’s what everyone is getting 😆

LOL! I bought a calligraphy workbook and it looks like a 5 year old scribbled all over it 🤣 Looking at it, I’m like crap… not cut out for this. That’s why I’m contemplating the tracing idea instead.

We printed addresses right on the envelopes. It’s more common now a days and so much easier. Do what makes you happy! It’s just an envelope, I don’t think people pay attention as much as we think they will

I keep getting mixed advice on this :/ some people say it’s okay, some people say it’s not and it’s better to have your crappy hand writing on there than printing it, etc. I personally would rather print it!

The invitation website I used didn't offer guest addressing so I purchased a template on Etsy, typed in the addresses myself, and printed using the big laser printer at my work. I tried using my home inkjet printer and it looked terrible.. make sure you have a nice printer or take to a store to be printed. It turned out amazing!
