Damn girl, way to jump right on it! My guess would be "Sargent and Mrs. John Smith", but I'm totally making that up.

My bf is on the phone, but when he gets off, I'll ask him Smiley smile He'll probably be able to answer it, he's in the Navy.

You can go to the Tongue and Quill pages 170 - 182 Gives you all the examples how to do this.

I was confused by this too, as my FH's second oldest brother is leaving in August 2010 for Basic and my wedding is June 2011. His wife is kinda effy with his family, but he said he can take a month off once hes off basic..so I dont know what do to due, My mother said send invite anyway which i plan to do.

    SSgt 'so-and-so' & Mrs.....

I'm in the AF and thats how we'd write it.

I read online that you shouldn't abbreviate the title for formal invites, my bf originally wanted to put SSgt too. I think it could go either way, but I think 'Staff Sergeant and Mrs. John Smith' is better. Otherwise it's like saying 'Mr. John Smith and Mrs. Jane Smith." I think the Staff Sergeant just replaces the Mr.

I would abbreviate for the military. DS has been in the AF for 20 years, and I'm going off of what he said.

I am in the Air Force and none of my wedding invites have been addressed to me as my rank. I am not offended by it all. Remember unless you are in the service most weddings are civilian in nature. I would expect a Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Greenhill or even Tracy and Doddie Greenhill on my invites.

However, according to our Tongue and Quill it should be: for example

Master Sergeant John Smith and Mrs. Jane Smith
