Adding sleeves to my dress HELP!:)

Private User, on October 19, 2016 at 7:38 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 33

Thanks for looking at this! My wedding is in two months and I want to add sleeves to this dress not a tiny little strap but something thicker however I'm having trouble picturing something that won't take away from the dress! All ideas are welcome if you can add pics of your own that's even better Smiley smile

*my goal is not to make the entire dress different but to just add somewhat of a sleeve I feel strapless is not decent for church

If you go back to where you purchased it they probably have sample sleeves so you can get an idea.

What's the purpose for the sleeves? I would suggest off the shoulder but I don't think that helps with support or coverage

I'd say go with something lace to match the bodice. If you're looking to cover up more, how about a bolero?

You can get boleros that go over the front of your dress and basically give you an illusion neckline with short or long sleeves. That way you could still take it off for the reception. DB has a bunch of them.

You could do illusion fabric on the top and as low as you want the sleeves to go. Honestly, if you want a more modest dress I would just look at lines that are specifically geared towards that and not try to reverse engineer a bare strapless gown into something modest.

The illusion is not a bad idea but just for everyone else I'm not trying to completely change the dress into a full fledged cover up just want to add something on. Maybe I should clear that up

Maybe something like this? If you have any alterations they could use some of that fabric?

Or if you haven't ordered your dress yet and that was a sample, you could ask them to order extra lace of the dress and do something like this

Good luck I'm in the process of doing this now and I hate it. I wish I wouldn't have. I just gave it to seamstress and let her go with it but now I see that was a huge mistake. I would suggest some type of bolero jacket.

Aw Wendy don't tell me that! What does your dress look like? My sister in law had a dress similar to mine and her sleeves ended up looking like a part of it and it looked great

I'm adding lace cap sleeves to my strapless dress. They gave me options of lace or like a chiffon fabric- (see next pic sorry on mobile)

I purchased extra yards of tulle, lace and the lace applique and will have a seamstress make sleeves. Did you order extra fabric that is the same that your dress is made from?

There are a bunch of people on etsy who make pull overs or bolero/shrugs. I really like the pullover because you can have it sewn onto the dress so it looks like one piece.
