Adding Length to Wedding Dress Train?

Jessica, on November 25, 2020 at 3:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
Hi future Mrs’! I posted last night about having second thoughts about my wedding dress and a lot of you had great advise to go try the dress on again because there was a reason I fell in love with it in the first place (I made an appointment to do this). After digging into WHY I was having second thoughts about the wedding dress, I knew it was because of the train- it’s quite short (I believe it’s what they would call a “court” length). I posted some photos for you all to reference. The bridal shop let me know since the dress was already ordered, I’m not able to exchange it Smiley sad But mentioned that the seamstress might be able to add length to the train. Have any of you had length added to your train and have any photos you’re able to share?! It would be so appreciated and help put my mind at ease Smiley smileAdding Length to Wedding Dress Train? 1

You can ask the seamstress if they can extend it. Finding the exact lace to match may be a challenge and there will be a very noticeable seam where fabric is added on.

Rather than spending the time and money in trying to extend the length of the train, why don’t you get a long cathedral veil? It will give you that showstopping length without having to alter (and possibly ruin) your dress. Plus, you could then take the veil off and not have to deal with the train the rest the evening.

I agree with getting a long detailed veil! Your dress is beautiful and will be so much easier to dance and move in. After all, you only keep the train down for the ceremony then you pin it up.

I agree with just getting a cathedral veil. I wasn’t satisfied with my dress train either and added the veil to make it look longer because I didn’t want to spend the extra money to get it extended.

I agree with this. I don’t think having your train extended will look right. The dress is beautiful as is. A detailed cathedral veil will make all the difference.

Totally agree with everyone- don’t extend that train. I just returned my first veil I bought off of Amazon- was thinking I needed a plain veil but next to my dress it was too plain. I love sparkles & this veil just spoke to me!

I actually cut off the train on my dress and got a cathedral veil instead. I hate how dresses look bustled and now I don’t have to worry. There are so many different styles and lengths of veils.

As a veil designer, I agree with Chrysta! I also have a BS in Fashion & Design and matching that lace might be impossible. Alterations are SO expensive, at least where I live they are! Your best route is a gorgeous cathedral length veil, or even a monarch length one, if you so choose. Mine will be Monarch length. Best wishes!!❤

It's a gorgeous dress I like pp advice about getting a cathedral length veil it will give you that look your going for but saving your dress if you were to extend the train it will be obvious right now you have a beautfiul dress with a train that is easy to pin up,

I was going to say the same thing. Love this idea for her and it would cost a lot less.

Also in the same boat and would love to know if there was a way to extend without relying on the veil....

Rather than trying to tack on fabric to the existing train, they might be able to create a longer train that is attached underneath the existing train (basically attached to the lining with the existing train laying over it). That way you don't need to match the lace exactly -- it can be a complementary fabric. They may also be able to make it detachable so you don't have to bustle it.

Another idea would be a detachable watteau train that connects at the waistline. Those can be lovely and you will still have the smaller train for the reception. Good luck!
