Adding Cap Sleeves to Wedding Dress

Ingrid, on March 2, 2014 at 7:57 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

Hi everyone! This is my first post to Wedding Wire! I bought my Wedding Dress about a month ago, it is strapless (which I didn't originally want) and simple, form fitting with a slit in the back. I am in love with how it looks on me, and I couldn't beat the price, so I purchased it thinking I could add CAP SLEEVES since that was what my heart was set on since the beginning. Any advice from you that may have done this before? I need to do some research and speak to my seamstress of course, but I figured I would ask all you wonderful ladies first!

I've seen a couple of brides on here who did that but I don't have any experience with it myself. I'd just talk to your seamstress. Good luck!

I bought my dress from DB and they are adding lace capsleeves for $40 and I love the way it looks. It shouldn't be that complicated but I guess each seamstress is different.

You could add lace cap sleeves with a snap so that you can add them and if you decided you don't like them you can take them off Smiley smile simple.

I don't think adding a cap sleeve should be too hard. I wanted to add a little sleeve to most of the strapless dresses I tried on and every place I went to said it was doable and DB and AA had sleeves samples to show me what it would look like with my dress.

Thank you ladies for all your comments! Do you think if I brought my dress to DB even if I didn't purchase there, they would give me a consultation and do the work for me? I LOVE the idea of snaps!!!

Ingrid, could you post a picture of your dress (or even the designer and style name) for a better idea of fabrics and how the top looks? It is easier to add straps to some tops than others, and the type of strap you go for will be affected by the fabrics of your dress!

I'm planning on adding removable cap sleeves to my gown for the ceremony portion of my wedding because it will be in a church. When I purchased my dress, I made sure to "test" how it would look with straps by taking embellished belts and laying them over my shoulders.

Hi - i did this. i'll look for photos.

who is the designer of the dress? I would check with the store you purchased the dress from to work with the designer on adding something like that. you'll want it to match the dress as closely as possible and, without knowing what your dress looks like, it would likely be very difficult for another designer to do this.

ETA: Pictures - sorry they're not the best quality but you'll get the idea. And sorry that the sample (strapless) was obviously not fitted. I don't think you can fully see my boobs in that picture though :-) just pretend it fit me a little more snugly.
