Adding a corset to a lace back wedding dress

C, on March 10, 2021 at 12:16 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

I am wondering if it's possible to add a corset to a lace back wedding dress? I seem to fluctuate in size enough that I worry that, if I alter my dress to fit perfectly, it won't fit well even the next week. Right now I'm about 1/2 - 1 inch away from it buttoning. Would a corset back work with my dress or would it look strange with the lace and the side panels? I wouldn't want a panel of fabric behind the corset - just a nice tie. First photo is my dress back. Second is the kind of corset I'm thinking.

    Discuss that with your seamstress

Definitely talk with your seamstress. Personally I’d look for other options. You already have the corset look on the sides, putting another on the back would be too much.

A seamstress can give you better advice. Personally I don't think that the lace is strong enough for a corset back.

That’s what I would think. Lace is very very delicate.

I worked in bridal for three years. In terms of whether it's possible, it looks like the lace is just an overlay, and the underlay fabric looks like it would be sturdy enough to support the tension of a corset (based on the boning already present). In terms of whether or not the look of the lace up on the sides and the back would be too much, that's really up to you! If it would make you feel more comfortable and less worried on the day of it might be worthwhile. Regardless, I would take it in for alterations to see what can be done so that you don't have to stress about it!
