Adding a belt to dress

Peach Snapple, on November 22, 2016 at 10:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27

Alterations question. I plan to wear a small jeweled belt with my dress, but I'm clueless how they are put on the dress. I haven't found the belt yet because I'm not sure what I'm supposed to look for. Are belts sewed directly onto the dress or do brides tie them on? I feel like seeing the tied bow in the back would look very strange. And it might move around throughout the day needing adjustment. But if they do sew on belts, is there a certain kind im supposed to get? Help!

Some people have their seamstress that does their dress alterations just add the belt to the dress. They cut the ribbon (if one is attached) and sew it on to the dress.

You can do either. The belts I've seen are long enough to tie if you want, but if you want it sewn they will just cut the extra ribbon and sew it on either side of the zipper. So basically you are looking for any belt that you like!

I dont have a corset, so I am keeping the ribbon. The seamstress is going to essentially nail it down in the middle and each side to keep the belt from shifting while wearing.

I have one I'm just tying on. It looks pretty having the bow and ribbon trailing down the back. You can also have it stitched in place a bit so it doesn't move around.

I'm going to have one and will have it sewn on. I'm not fond of the idea of the long ribbon/bow in the back.

    I'm debating this too.

Brides with belts, did you wait until after you got your dress delivered to pick out a belt? I know I want one, I'm just having a hard time picking one out because I have no idea what it will look like on/how thick it should be/how blinged out it should be.

I got the belt and love it. I tied it I like small bow in the back. I waited until I got the dress to pick the belt.

The day of the wedding, I didn't even think about it. It didn't come lose or anything like it. I guess my mom did a good job putting it on me.

The belt. Sorry I don't have a lot of close up that show off. It's like the 5th belt I tried on though!

It really depends on your preference. You can get it sewn in or you can tie it on with the bow.

So can the seamstress sew on a belt even if it's not attached to a ribbon/sash? Like if it's just straight up jewels?

I have a ribbon put on my dress. The seamstress is adding bra clips to the ends and small snaps on the sides to keep it in place

I have been looking at belts all morning on Etsy and Davids Bridal. Both are having Black Friday sales. I'm leaning toward tying mine so the bow shows in the back.

It really depends on the fabric of the dress too. Mine can't be sewn on, but it still looks great.
