Here is one example of what can happen when food isn't prepared appropriately and kept at a correct temperature. If it can happen to a licensed caterer, it can happen to a potluck or self catered event.

    That is TERRIBLE! Omg! I hope she's able to get money to cover the guests' medical expenses.

    This is why I fight so hard to tell people not to make their own food or have family make their own food for their weddings.

    Absolutely nuts. I couldn't even imagine what that was like, as the bride and as a guest, no less. So terrible.

    It wasn’t self catered. It was catered by a BBQ company, but they’re refusing to take the blame as there was also cheese and pepperoni brought in from the grocery store, Wegmans.

    You should still never self cater!! If professionals can make mistakes imagine what regular people could do...

    I'm not bringing in ANY outside food thanks to this article and if I do lunch for the wedding party it will also be 100% catered from somewhere like Panera. Yes it can still happen but at least the whole outside food argument won't be applicable.

    My heart breaks for this bride. Catering is meant to prevent exactly this!!!

    My heart breaks for this couple, too! How sad and I am just glad the guests are okay. People, I am hosting a family reunion this Sunday and I am catering it, no potlucks for a simple family reunion for 50 or so folks. Never ever for a wedding.
