75 days out and Reception venue cancelled on me

Hermione, on November 30, 2019 at 10:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 17
I have a 21 person wedding and no reception venue. The place I had forgot my fully paid reservation and scheduled maintenance. They refunded the money. They told me 75 days out that "they are sorry" and basically gave me a gift card....

And here we are on a low budget wedding and no reception venue. Which leads to stress... Which leads to fighting... And I cannot take any more.
Does anyone know how to throw a dinner party at the last minute. It's a destination and everything is scheduled there.

Oh no. Sorry this happened to you. Is there a steakhouse nearby?
Maybe you can do a really nice sit down dinner especially with such a small guest count.
    Hope everything works out.

O dang! Deep breath here! You got this.

75 days for 21 people, it may not seem like enough time but you can figure this out!

Start researching local restaurants, ask the hotel you are staying at for suggestions and tell them what happened. I am thinking positive. Smiley smile

I get laughed at trying to make a large reservation on Valentine's day.... It isn't a good feeling.

WOW! I am so sorry to hear that! Do they have some suggestions for an alternative? I am sorry but the gift card does NOT cut it here! I would push back for alternatives, start checking local restaurants and other venues around there. Is it international? Is there another hotel that it can all be moved to? It doesn't seem like a 21 guest reception should be something that the hotel could find an alternative for. I realize that can be a challenge but at least you have a little time to find your plan B. I read about another bride that her church burned down 2 weeks before the wedding. I cannot imagine how to swing that one. Smiley sad

Knock on wood that doesn't happen. The chapel is still there.

No suggestions, just a gift card to visit the failed venue and have a nice two night stay there.... And look at all the failed plans... Because they forgot our reservation.... And decided to do routine maintenance... We made this in March....
They didn't even call us or contact us in any way... We found out from the bank refunding our deposit. And we called them.... And they said sorry.... It doesn't begin to cut it right now

Is the hotel near a Pier or water where they have local ships that can accommodate a ceremony/reception? Restaurants are also nice and if you find a nice one with a fire pit I have seen this done. My brother and now sister in law got married at the marina a few years back and had dinner at the steakhouse nearby and brought in cake. They weren't into dancing and we just gave them gifts and toasts.

I al sorry sorry amd that's crappy of them. It's stressful but check some venues here and worse case do a light sit down dinner or heavy appetizers. Other hotels will host receptions of you ask and some may cater. Where's the wedding?

Do any of the restaurants in the area have a function space? You may not be able to make large reservations for Valentine’s Day but I doubt all the private rooms in restaurants are booked.

Oh so Texas!? There has to be many hotels and hotels. Also check out other venues via this site. Sadly nothing that can be done with the previous venue but luckily you have over two months to find something else even if it's a huge stressor. Also, ask for some help. 21 people is much easier than 210 which is good lol. I hope you find something good and I am so sorry.

If you signed a contract with them, I would think they should be obligated to make alternate arrangements for you. At the very least they should be able to direct you on where to go.

They exercised a clause in the contract where they can cancel at any time 60 days before... And they did...

They aren't helping. They refunded us, gave us a gift card and said sorry. And we found out by the bank and then calling them.... They ended their obligation to us and at the same time... This is hell. I was happy I was done. And now I am stressed beyond words

Check out AirBNBs in the area that allow events. That could be a great option given the valentines day situation.

The inventory that is left on Airbnb isn't great. The reason for getting married on the holiday is kinda screwing me.
