70s Style Wedding!

Hey guys, I need help! I'm planning a 70s wedding and mostly doing it on my own. I was born in the 90s and my fiance was born in the 70s so I'm a tad confused on how I really want to pull this off. What colors would you suggest for this type theme? I'm not looking for the traditional white or ivory colors (including the dress) so I want to do this all different. I'm thinking of a blue for the bridesmaids but what color should I go with? Gold, maybe? I'm not sure I'd like the gold idea. I tried on a gorgeous navy blue ball gown with gold lace and it was perfect but not for my type of style. I plan to do a mermaid type dress with cap sleeves and possible long sleeves. I'm gonna have a bohemian styled dress for my reception. Just throw any ideas you can at me please? I plan to make most or all of my decorations, bouquets, etc!

I love 70's inspired wedding dresses - so I personally would just do something along that lines. Or do a 70's inspired floral dress and then have the bridesmaids in a corresponding color.

Are you going for a retro kind of feel to get the 70's vibe? If so, look up 70's weddings on Pinterest. There are a lot of vintage inspired new dresses, or you could probably find an antique dress at a second hand shop.

I'm looking for a 70s celebration but I've had two dresses I fell in love with that'd be perfect for the themes. Just one of them are white.

I’d be very careful with having a theme on this one. It could get to be too much really fast and look like a weird party rather than a wedding.

The 70's were NOT a great style decade to start with (e.g., look at that wedding party -- change the BM's dresses to peach with ORANGE flowers with a peach-colored hat, and that was my older sister's wedding and I was a very unhappy 15-year old BMs), it would definitely NOT be my choice for fashion inspiration for a contemporary wedding. If you go this way, as with all themes, use a light hand.... Good luck!
