6 hours late taking birth control?!

I normal take my pill around 1 am (I'm bad and stay up late!) but I fell asleep last night and then took it at 7am this morning. I am still on week 1 of this pack. Do I need a backup method? I feel like I just ruined everything with my forgetfulness because tonight is our wedding night and it will...

Do I need a backup method? I feel like I just ruined everything with my forgetfulness because tonight is our wedding night and it will be our first time.

ETA: I'm on Microgetsin (combination pill) and I've only been on it for 3 months.

I'm also worried because I missed a pill completely 2 weeks ago, which early induced my period, which just ended a few days ago. So now I'm really worried I'm not protected.

Should be fine- 6 hours is well within the time frame for effectiveness (when I was on BC, in theory I could go 12 hours without triggering a period. The same time each day is mostly to help remind us to take it regularly). It will all be okay- relax and enjoy your wedding day!

All pills are not created equal. This question really depends on exactly which pill you are taking. Some pills need to be taken at a more exact time than others. I'd recommend calling your doctor or pharmacist. If they aren't available try calling planned parenthood.

No, you may not be fine.

Unless you want a baby, I would suggest using a backup method.

I've been on 2 different brand of pills and both of them said in the info packet that I could miss one pill and double up the next day and not need backup protection. To ease your mind though call the pharmacist or Planned Parenthood. I agree with a PP though that a condom might help your FH last longer if it's his first time too.

But relax and enjoy your wedding day!

I used to forget and take my pill late pretty often. I also had days where I forgot it completely and took 2 the next day. I never got pregnant while on BC no matter how horrible I was at taking it. I'm sure you're fine.

    ETA: also, happy wedding day!!

Most likely you'll be okay, but If you're truly concerned and not ready for a baby, use a back up method. The last thing you want is a pregnancy when you aren't ready for one.

You'll be fine. My daughter likes to hide mine. She's 16 months and lives to hide everything's he can get her hands on. I was without it for 2 1/2 days. When I finally found it I just took 2 pills and then 2 the following evening. If it's not your very first pack you're fine.

Planned Parenthood says you can make up one or even two missed combination pills and not need other contraception:

However, for next time, if you miss a pill entirely in the third week of a pack, you may need to start the new pack early.

You should be fine! Try not to stress.

If you can't get it off of your mind just use a condom.

    Happy wedding day!

You're fine! My doctor says if I take it a few hours after I'm supposed to its fine. Sometimes it's a whole day later and no accidents here!

    Happy wedding! Congrats

I've taken mine late quite a few times. Just make sure if you miss I pull you still take that pill! You'll be fine. If you feel more comfortable and are REALLY concerned about it, use another form of birth control like a condom or the morning after pill. Good luck! Congratulations! Have a blast today!!!

If your only on week one you should be using a second back up. It'll take a month to start working (unless you were on a birth control pill before) instead of taking it 6 hours later, double up the next time you take it.

You will be fine. Although it doesn't fully take affect for a few weeks. I have been on birth control for 10 years and was ALWAYS late taking my bill so I recently switched to an IUD and love it so much! Congratulations on your wedding!
