Any other ideas?

I m having a wedding with 50 people...I think it is doable...our budget is going over our goal..due to a venue, Electra Cruises breeching contract..which is another horrible situation. We are getting married on a Sunday to help costs... it is possible ...just have to really cut back..... Good luck!Smiley smile

My suggestion for a 50 guest wedding would be to avoid a costly venue. Find a friend's backyard and decorate it your own way. Ask your favorite restaurant if they do catering, or get some input from family and friends. I think it's perfectly doable, and you don't have to do without a DJ, flowers, etc.

It'll be in Calgary, AB in the summer. Unfortunately Calgary weather is too unpredictable to have an outdoor wedding without a contingency plan, which costs more money. So I'm hoping to find somewhere for indoor where people could go enjoy outside but we won't have to pay for tent rentals etc.

Hey Brit, check out this blog. It was really good!

    http://confessionsoftheweddingdiva.blogspot.com/2011/04/realitycheck-series-how-much-wedding.html

@Jessica, Awesome that you got a rate that you could afford. That being said, all of my weddings include a meal for me and my staff, and that is customary for many all day vendors such as photographers, DJs, and even the caterering staff allocates for meals with their portions. What I caution all is this. Human nature tells us that if I would normally make $1000 for the same work, and now will make half that, will I put the same energy into that event?

I have even had it said to me as a second shooter..."your doing too much, they didn't pay for that..." But in the end as long as you get the product that you wanted and have the memories, that is ALL that matters.

Yes it's doable! I'm planning a wedding for 100 guests for around 2k, give or take a few hundred....and I'm planning it in roughly 3 months. So I totally think you can do it. Few questions:

    Theme?

    Alcohol?

    Food?

    Casual or Formal?

I'm a coupon queen and LOVE finding deals! So I'll help ya any way I can.

Theme: schoolhouse/back-to-school - i really like the idea of chalkboards for menus, programs, table numbers etc.

Alcohol: We'll probably provide our own beer and wine.

Food: Depends on venue, so far undecided.

Casual or Formal: Somewhere in between? I want a fun summer wedding that's not too stiff but not too casual. If that makes sense...

Yes, totally make sense...I'm going for the same feel. I live in Texas, so we will be going with BBQ. We are going to buy the meat from a BBQ place and do the sides ourselves. Hmm...lemme think on yours. I'm not sure how everything works way up there and all, but I'll do some looking. See if I can come up with any suggestions. Smiley smile

I live in St. Louis. I found a few places that were $30 a person with open bar. But not having an open bar really lowers the costs big time!!

I'm trying to do a wedding on a tight budget too. 4K for 50. It is really stressing me out but it will be worth it when it is over and all our money hasn't been used up for one day of our lives. Wishing you luck. I am sure you can do it!

We're doing a Canadian wedding for around $5 k to and we're inviting 80 guests... I haven't checked in a little while but I think the total wedding budget is $6500 and my parents are paying for the meal, so that knocks off about 2K.

We saved money by finding a reception hall that charged no fee for the actual hall. They charge only for the meals and make their money that way. I am also doing a lot of DIY projects like my invitations, my table numbers, my card box, my seating numbers, I'm also BUYING my chair covers online as opposed to renting them because #1 its cheaper, and #2 I'll be able to resell them!

Another thing I might add is that I was also interested in RENTING a dress, but the dresses were all around $300 - $500 to rent plus tax, plus insurance plus alterations it came up to between $600 - $800 to rent the dress - SO not worth it!! I found my dress on sale, marked down from $1800 to $500.. I paid $570 tax included and there are very few alterations that need to be done. AND I can resell it afterwards and gain some cash back there to!

I am getting a 100 person wedding in 5k so it is doable. Good luck! I even bought my dress--I just got an incredible deal. Just calm down and take it one step at a time. Unless you are blowing your entire budget on an expensive venue or photographer or catering you will DEFINITELY make it Smiley smile

she is actually my cousin and is from dallas tx but is willing to travel. she is moving in the fall upstate but i forgot what state. look her up. Do lots of DIY projects. as far as dress look for blow out sales and try buying a sample dress. Some ladies have bought their dresses online and only paid a couple hundred dollars.

Very doable! Lots of DIY projects and researching. I am getting my venue for $800 for 8 hours, we are having the ceremony and reception at the same location. We aren't renting limos, no favors, doing invitations myself, my sister is making our cake, she is helping with table cloths $100 or less to make 20, we are buying flowers from samsclub.com and doing them ourselves, no bouquet/garter toss, we are making my flower girl dress, only having like 2 bridesmaids, we are doing simple southern foods ourselves with the help of some family which will be buffet, We are doing ipod instead of DJ, friend is doing my hair and makeup, we aren't getting gifts for the parents/bridal party/ or each other. We aren't paying for any out of town guests hotels, only doing 2 menu cards for each table, no fancy dishware, since our venue allows us to bring our own booze we are doing beer, wine coolers, margaritas, and daquaries (sp). I think that is about it.
