5/16/20 wedding postponed to 5/15/21

It's official. Our wedding date is postponed to next year. I'm bummed about it but also see the positives. We'll have more time to pay the wedding expenses off gradually throughout the year and maybe do things a little differently this time around. My hair will be longer like I envisioned, our teeth will be straight (FH and I are both in the middle of invisalign treatment that ends in August 😁), and I have time to get in better shape. All our major vendors are booked for the new date so we can focus on the smaller details to make our day even more special and have something to look forward to.

Since our wedding is pretty low key and most guests are not local, we never sent out paper invitations for the original wedding date. Since all but 4 of our guests are on FB, we created an event and invited everyone there. It also doubled as our wedding website where we can post info about the wedding and "get to know us" posts since all of my FH's family lives out of state and haven't met me yet. I'm glad we did because it's super convenient for us to keep everyone updated on the new plans. We will ask for everyone to RSVP again next year.
I know there are tons of other brides in a similar situation. I understand the disappointment and hope you're hanging in there. 💛

Yes!!!! It’s so nice to see someone putting a positive spin on their postponement! We are in the same position as you. Our wedding was originally scheduled for November of this year, but in light of everything we decided to skip the months and months of worry & stress about the unknown, and just postpone til next Fall when we are more confident we can have the wedding of our dreams & all our guests can feel safe attending. Is it a bummer?... YES!! But, like you, we are trying to focus on the positives- more time to save even more money means we can add all the little things we wanted to do in the first place but couldn’t afford. I am a natural blonde, but I have been dying my hair crazy shades of fire engine red, burgundy, and copper for years. Then, went super dark brunette over that. My fiancé always imagined me being blonde at our wedding. So you can imagine the damage my hair has been sustaining trying to get back to that! LOL at least now I will have the time to get back to blonde gradually (and hopefully not fry my hair!) Plus, I did that whole “ I’m going to lose weight before my wedding“ thing... but instead gained 10 pounds LOL Now I have an entire additional year to actually lose that weight! (if I don’t do it this time, I’ve got no one to blame but myself ha ha). And my best friends moved to hungary a few years ago and I miss them terribly. They were not going to be able to attend the wedding, but now that we have pushed it back a year, there is a chance they may make it! Which, in itself, is worth the postponement 🖤
I know all 2020 brides are facing difficulties nobody could have ever predicted. I think the best way to get through this is to focus on the light points amidst the dark. Sending lots of love, light & positivity to all 2020 brides!!

I'm so glad you've got new plans and have secured all your vendors for the new date!!

I love your positive outlook on this totally insane situation! Hopefully it was a huge stress reliever to set the new date and spread the news. ❤️

Awww Chrysta, your post made me smile. Thank you for sharing! I'm so happy you're able to see the positives too and really hope your best friends can make the new date. That would be so special. I'm also glad someone understands the hair thing lol. This is going to be my 2nd marriage. I didn't like my hair, makeup, and dress the first time around and told myself I'd make different choices if I ever got married again. 😆 I've always had long hair and decided to chop it all off last summer not knowing I would be engaged a couple months later. I knew an engagement would come eventually, just not THAT soon lol. So when it was time to decide on my hairstyle for the big day, I was a little disappointed I couldn't achieve the look I envisioned without extensions. Now I can!! Yesssss! Since being in quarantine, I dyed my hair blue because why not?! This is the time to do it since I'm working from home for the foreseeable future. I work in a professional setting so I probably wouldn't do this normally.

I feel so much more at ease now that our new date is set. Like you, I'm making the best of a crappy situation. My dress was in the middle of alterations when everything shut down so my next fitting is now on 6/24. I have gained some weight in the last couple months. My dress would not fit me right now lol but I'm using that date as motivation to lose a few lbs. by June and hope to use that momentum to keep going until next May! Originally, we weren't planning on doing a formal reception (just a dinner following our ceremony) but we may opt to have one now and we may add on extra days to our trip to be able to relax a little before and after the wedding. (We're having a destination wedding in FL.)
This feels like a redo for everything we wished we could do before and it gives us something to look forward to. I'm so happy for you and your fiancé!! Our day is going to be amazing when it finally comes. ❤
