3 hour timeline help

Koshka32713, on April 6, 2013 at 8:15 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

I only have 3 hours for my ceremony and reception. I'm not really sure how long everything will take. Any thoughts on the draft timeline below?

11:45 guests arrive

12:00 official start time

12:05 actual start time

12:15 ceremony ends

12:15-12:45 cocktail hour/paperwork

12:45 introductions and first dance

1:00 buffet opens/dancing

1:30 father/daughter dance

2:00 cake

2:30 bouquet toss

2:45 last call

2:50 last dance

3:00 guests depart

Am I missing anything?

It would work, but how many people are you having? Some people more a bit slower than others.

Is your ceremony only 10 minutes? Does that include the processional?

My venue told me to give 30 minutes per course, but that's not for buffet. Also don't forget time for your precessional.

Two parts that look very tight:

    - 10 minutes for the ceremony. With the processional and recessional, that basically leaves you with about 5 minutes for the ceremony itself.

    - Yes, how many guests? 30 minutes doesn't seem enough for the buffet.

Sorry, if I wasn't clear. The ceremony starts at noon. I was including the processional in the 10 minutes, but not the recessional. But to be honest, I was only expecting the ceremony to run 5-7 minutes. Also, the buffet would be open from 1:00-2:30, but the other events would be happening at the same time. We aren't having a formal lunch time.

I would recommend cutting some of the less important traditions (bouquet toss maybe?) from the reception. It might not feel too long, but jumping from thing to thing will not got you much time to mingle with guests and relax and enjoy the moment a little.

I kind of agree with Tatiana. I originally wanted to pack so many activities into my reception. But then I realized I'd rather let most of the time pan out naturally, and give us time to actually hang out with our guests. We are ditching the tosses, and not replacing them with anything. If they are important to you though, don't ditch them. You'd regret it later. Is there a reason you only have the space for 3 hours?
