2Nd Wedding Ceremony & Gathering

kcstroud, on August 1, 2019 at 7:56 PM Posted in Planning 1 5

Hi all,

Our official wedding would be in New Mexico (where my fiance grew up). We will also have a church ceremony in our state of residence (Arizona) exactly one week after the official wedding. The reason was because I am Catholic and there was no priest in New Mexico that we could find (for some reasons, the priests there all moved to a different city so it was hard for the church to find someone to hold regular Sunday mass). So we ended up having a non-religious ceremony at the same reception venue.

Our church ceremony in Arizona will start at 11am. I am wondering what I should do about "reception" after the ceremony. It would be small and we will invite close friends and family that couldn't go to New Mexico (maybe under 20 guests).

Should we plan for a gathering for food right after mass? We are thinking about reserving a semi-private space in a restaurant.

Have anyone been in the same situation and how did you organize the "2nd" wedding? Please feel free to let me know if you have any advice about this. I appreciate it!

I think doing it at a restaurant after is a good idea since it sounds like it's more of a casual event anyway

Thank you. I just want it to be a simple celebration since we already have the "big" wedding the week before.

The priest isn't going to be able to officiate at a wedding if you are already married. He could however do a convalidation ceremony, so that your marriage would be recognized in the church. Taking your guests to a nice meal would seem a perfectly appropriate thing to do afterward.

    Hey there!

I think your idea of inviting your guests to a restaurant to celebrate with you is a wonderful idea. It sounds perfect since you will have quite a small guest count.

I also love the idea to take your guests out to eat at a restaurant!
