2025 Wedding - Prices

Ashley, on January 12, 2024 at 9:20 AM Posted in Planning 0 4
Hello! Getting ready to book a venue for both ceremony and reception… I’m just curious how to know what the average cost is for a ceremony/reception with cocktail hour, buffet dinner and open bar for 150 guest.

I’ve been getting quotes from multiple vendors and they all range between $10k-$17k, some just offer more perks than others. Definitely planning on a budget, so wanting to get the best “bang for a buck”. I guess any budgeting tips/tricks or venue selecting advice would be appreciated! 🤗

It depends on where you're located and what time of the year you want to get married

There is no such thing as average cost. Cost depends on your location. A small town may have less expensive options by outsourcing everything to the local Walmart that is a 50 mile drive away or they might be expensive because there are no options so everything has to be brought in from elsewhere. Large cities have multiple price ranges contrary to popular belief, so not everything that is quality is automatically super expensive.

Before you start to look at vendors and venues, you need to have a specific vision in mind: you have x non negotiable guests who are not courtesy invites to please someone else, you want this type of food at your reception, you want to stay this many hours, and go from there. But you may need to flexible too. You may fall in love with a certain venue style but the rental fee and overall restrictions don’t work for you, so that gets scratched from the list.
Decide what is the maximum amount you are willing and able to spend without financial assistance from parents or credit cards, and get quotes from vendors. Be firm with what you want when you call because they will upsell you on services that are out of your budget and that you don’t want, because they know couples are easily swayed and will pay what they are told blindly. Don’t hesitate to get quotes from lesser known vendors and vendors that are not listed on the popular lists. Browse Yelp for vendors and take a look at Instagram. What type of vendors are charging that much and what are they offering? $10k is some couples’ entire budget for the whole event, not per vendor. Be aware that an all inclusive is not as budget friendly as they claim because they nickel and dime you too.

I would suggest having a look and asking at your local board, they will have a good idea. You can find that on the front page listing all the forums. Good luck with your planning!
